I have a hard time remembering early childhood. Sometimes I think some of the early "memories" I have are manufactured based on stories that other people told me about what I did. Or are all memories actually constructs? Consider. Or don't.

Yeah, I always try to avoid that. Sometimes I wake up from a dream with a memory that seems so real. Those that are false ARE quickly exposed though.

As for timing, I do it based on how I felt, perspective, and environment. With most schooltime memories, or ones from an area I haven't been to much, that gets it pretty close.

That's what I think. One of the oldest memories I think I can remember is breaking my leg when I was three. But I don't know whether that's just from people telling me about it and that's how I imagined it when I was younger... So now it seems like a real memory :?

Early special interests can seem like perseveration on simple things like numbers or playing with water. My mother told me my early special interest (before 2) was in folding laundry. I would fold and unfold stacks of my diapers. At least that is what I was told. I don't remember doing ot.

hi risingphoenix,
interest can start at any age really but as time progresses its more prominant.
A toddler can have an interest in wooden building blocks, thomas the tank engine anything really.
i hope this has been helpful :)

The first special interest that I can REMEMBER was a fascination with skeletons when I was about five.

I have memories going from infancy on, but they're just snapshots. However I can remember things in great detail that happened when I was very young. Once I made a list of every memory I had from kindergarten, it was very, very long.

Lucky you, Anything I remember before the age of 5 is composites of what others of told me. Always from an external pespective. I don't even remember my first day in kindergarten.

I do remember my teacher saying I was Stupid.

I can definitely remember having special interests when I was nine.

I'm pretty sure I they existed long before that, but can't remember - my memory for childhood events is really random. For instance, I can remember exactly what the assembly hall at my first school looked like, down to every grain in the floorboards and pane of coloured glass... but have only a few vague recollections of any of the other people there.

Well HEY, I'm sure EVERYONE has that problem. I only remember about what perhaps 4 dozen people in my schools look like, the names of perhaps 1/3 of my teachers(Prior to highschool anyway), and the names of maybe a dozen kids(Includes about 6 friends/acquaintances, 3 girls I liked/knew, about 3 bullies) I COULD tell you a lot about what the schools were like, and layout the floorplans, etc... I can recall things, like the teacher(I believe her name was ROSE), that took my apple corer! Or the teacher(her name was Linda) that told me to erase all my work, and do it at the classes pace. BUT..... I can recall the teacher that showed us how to do a standing broad jump(and tore his meniscus), and the fact that he tried to cut in front of me at the cafeteria (and violated my PERSONAL space), and he got mad when I sneezed in his milk! I HAD to sneeze, and he removed all options! I EVEN remember we had HOTDOGS and I believe it was in second grade! But I CAN'T remember that jerks name!

You know, my memories are a bit like that too. I wonder if it's a side effect of Aspies (especially as children) noticing objects more than people. I could draw you the exact layout of my kindergarten classroom but I don't remember anything the other kids said or did, except when they annoyed me (or one time when a girl choked on a nickel and I wondered why on earth she had a nickel in her mouth).

Mostly I remember things like the smell of Play-Doh, the color of the carpet, where the flag was, what was on the cubbies, what the cafeteria smelled like, etc. Same with my memories at home really.

On a related note, I also remember looking at my toys more than actually playing with them.

A lot of my memories are based around what things smell like or feel like
