I don't want to talk to my parents about it. I don't want to hurt their feelings by telling them something might be wrong with me.

Well, I spoke to my mum and she said she couldn't remember a huge amount and that she thinks I developed at the normal rate, including talking and walking. Don't all people with AS had to have had speech development issues as a child?
She did say some interesting things like I wasn't socially outgoing and never spoke about other children when I was young. I was very clingy and had to be dragged away from her at school. Something I found interesting was she said when I was a baby I hated being in places with lots of people in and would scream if this happened. Not a huge amount seemed to point to AS, but a lot points to it now and since I was a pre teen. She is the sort of person who only sees what they want to see though - and has generally never acknowledged any of my problems. I think my next step is to go to my GP and put my case forward for a formal diagnosis, wish me luck!

That's exactly how my mom reacted. Don't let that stop you.

No. In fact, the diagnosis for AS states NO verbal development problems.
