I do that alot because of my ADD &/or Sluggish Cognitive Tempo but I did it more when I was suffering from a psychotic depression.

Can some zone outs be caused by "petit mal seizures "

I know they are more common in children, but adults may have them also.

In absence seizures, also called petit mal seizures, a person loses awareness of their surroundings for up to 20 seconds.

I know this isn't like most zone outs as you guys have been saying, but in a small number of cases could it be a cause ?

I think I'm the opposite. My brain is always over-active, to the point of insomnia, because I can't 'zone out'. Meditation is torture for me, to just try to sit and think about one boring thing, and nothing else. I can't do it!

I do have trouble when driving though (which is why I gave it up years ago). That's the only case where I'm aware of 'losing time', and often finding myself several blocks from where I last remembered being. I suppose it might happen at home too, I'm just not aware that I zoned out, because I didn't end up in a different place.
