Neither. I'm more spiritual than religious.
I'm agnostic on the subject of some creator
type of God, but have touched things which
are definitely not of this existence.

You can't see, for example, the wind, and that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

The wind still has obvious measurable effects.

Gods have none.

No. Lack of belief does not qualify as "belief."

Also, I personally am not sure that there is no god. I am just not sure there is one. The term "atheism" only requires a lack of belief, not belief in the opposite. In any logical or scientific debate, burden of proof lies with the affirming arguement. As soon as someone can PROVE to me that a god exists, I will be glad to change my viewpoint.

a·the·ism (th-zm) KEY

NOUN:

1 Disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods.
2 The doctrine that there is no God or gods. (http://education.yahoo.com/reference/di ... ry/atheism)

Just by the defination, well all besides the possibility of the disbelief part, suggests that it is indeed a relegion. Perhaps if you don't believe that there is no God it would be more correct to say you don't have a clue instead of calling yourself an atheist as you are bending the defination of atheism.

Anyway if you need proof I suggest you read Fahreinheit 451 (or reread it) and remember what Ben Franklins job is in it. You can't prove anything in this world.

Everyone is an atheist.

Nobody believes in all the Gods.

And that quote was misread.

Things can be proven up to 99.999999999999999999 percent and disproven to the same degree.

Atheist, and I found Richard Dawkins 'The God Delusion' book a very good point for securing that.

But we can feel and measure the wind. That's the difference.

I am atheist. I was brought up a catholic but never believed.

It is a myth that atheists don't believe in good and bad. I'm not an absolutist. I think it is important to regularly question what you believe. Every situation requires some kind of judgment, it is always changing. An old book is not going to give you better guidance.

What I find about religion is how exploitive it is. How many people are afraid to question what they believe or even search for a logical explanation. Or in the absence of a know explanation that ‘faith’ is a reasonable answer when it explains nothing. How arbitrary rules are often passed as 'morality' when very often they are extremely damaging and pointless. How religion tagged on to 'morality' very late and is more about control and assimilation.

I think there is a stereotype that Apsies are always atheist, because of the illogic of it. I never had a need to believe in god, or really understood why people would want to. It seems to me it is anxiety externalised to the nth degree. I would say it is like running away from you problems and fears not want really address them. I don't actually think religion does a lot of good. Just because something may do some good doesn't make it good overall that is a flawed argument. I think it is wrong that children are spoon fed religion. I think that parents should wait until their children are old enough to understand and make their own decisions.

I do think that some atheiest like to congrigate. I don't for me it is not about doctrine it is about indivuality.

A faith perhaps, but atheism is far less of a
religion than either communism or science.
Just as one can have faith in God without
organized religion, one can disbelieve without
as well.

I'm an atheist. I read 'The God Delusion' - great book.

In Australia churches are resporting to bribery to get them to come. Some churches are offering free facials, capuccinos etc. Some even have car giveaway raffles - you get to go in the raffle if you join their church. Of course they then tithe.

I've been an Atheist since third grade because I was simply unconvinced that a god or other holy beings existed because of the lack of scientific proof to back it up.

EDIT: Fixed a typo.

So do I. It really gets my goat when I read about fundies insisting that God created the Earth in six days when a massive amount of evidence is there to contradict it.

That being said... I do have a certain degree of faith that there is a creator, of some description (although I haven't been to church regularly for quite some time). It's not an unshakeable one, by any means (in fact I have frequent doubts), but it is there. Which is why I also get annoyed with gloating fundy atheists who are smug and superior about what they think. That's not to say all atheists are bad, of course - because they're not - but pounding your Dawkins and screeching that everybody who has faith is a deluded idiot is really rather offensive.

Can't we all just... get along? ;)
