Royger, pick & choose what you like and ignore the rest. Think of it like an introduction to what it'll be like to work after graduation... lots of people, many personalities, many attitudes that you've got to tolerate either because you like the work itself, just a few of the people or maybe just because you need the paycheck. Oddballs everywhere, nice folks everywhere.

The NT thing is what disturbs me the most about this place. People don't seem to realise the hypocricy of starting threads complaining about bigotry directed toward Aspergians and then on the other hand making completely bigoted posts directed towards 'the dreaded NTs'. I think this is fairly common behaviour in minority online communities from my experience.

That's exactly what I think. Sometimes I just want to scream at people to shut up about it and stop being so prejudice/racist about them. I mean, we're all people, so why can't some of (okay, a lot of) the people here just get over it? I could go on and on, but I'm tired right now.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I don't like the whole Us vs. Them stuff that goes on around here, but overall I think it's a nice and sometimes addicting community. I have to say though I've become more bitter about society in general when I visit forums like these. Maybe it's not the best thing to visit these kind of sites too often.

I have been to a large number of AS forum sites and never saw one that did not use the NT phrase often to describes those without aspergers or that had any regular members who were pro-cure. I just checked "Autism Speak's" website and they say they will have a message board soon. You might want to e-mail them and ask for a firm date. They likely will be the pro-cure, heavily moderated site that a pedantic aspies/autie would feel more comfortable at. I do notice a common feature of those that
have lack of empathy in that they only try to extract information or make unproductive
comments if those people leave WP they will not be missed by me.

Sorry I hadn't noticed a strong clique. I'm undecided on some of the issues but those are just opinions. You are welcome here I hope.

Roger,

I'm 42 and feel the same way. I think "Austism/AS community" or even just "Autism/AS site" are more appropriate.

Yeah I'm not political correct and have no problem with pro-cure people being here. He
would not be harassed by me for that.

I also feel a little weird about the anti-cure culture, I agree that austistics deserve respect as human beings and deserve respect for their indivuality but this radical movement makes me nervous.

It seems to me they reject the early detection and intervention on children, which I believe it is a good thing, children at a very young age are learning how to interact socially and how to follow social rules with therapies. That is my idea of "cure", but isn't that exactly. Surely NT children need to be educated to respect autistics. Maybe these interventions could help for NTs and auties to coexist peacefully without problems.

About the anti-NT stuff. I do not hate NTs. But I also know this: we must live in an NT defined world. For most of us, this is difficult. It is frustrating and often a source of pain.

Some of us have to vent. How better to vent to than one's peers?

Its like this with everything. Like Homosexuality was once attempted to be cured, and than they tried to educate the younger children about it, than they tried to blame the parents for being biased, than it was a disease, now its trendy, ect.

What I figure is, if YOU are pro-cure, awesome.
If YOU aren't pro cure, awesome.

Its your choice.

What I decide is right for me might not be for someone else.
It would be when I or someone else tries to shove a pamphlet about why our opinion is perfect is when that gets annoying. Again though, this could be battled with the idea that if no one laid judgment on what was a good decision or not we would inevitably get no where.

Its a huge cycle, the system is flawed and like any good system flawless doesn't happen, something WILL come along and tamper your perfectly built world, idea's, whatever. Peace would be wonderful, but we're human and peace is not going to happen. We could cure all disease in the world, peace still will not happen.

This is why communism is fantastic on paper but when applied is damaging.
Equal does not happen, reality is sad, try as we might to find this balance.

Tolerance maybe.
Something I need to work on.
