You have a cadre of people calling themselves "aspies".....this is a lot like the ADD craze.

I guess that if Asperger's is the next socially cool thing. Then we should enjoy this moment, while it last. Because, just like any fad/trend, it won't last forever. On the contrary, I really don't like it when these things happen. It's like all of a sudden, a new trend come along that make it cool to get around using wheel chairs instead of walking and everybody buys a wheel chair, because it now the cool thing to do. How do you think that all the paraplegics out there, who really need a wheel chair. Would think about this?

When I read stuff about this. It makes me think about how much some people can just act like sheep. Not wanting to sit back and really think about the context. Some people can be native.

Don't understand what you mean. Did you mean to say "native" or "naive"?

I'm at least 99 percent sure he meant "naïve".

I thought he might have but then I figured maybe he was saying something that I just had not understood so I figured I would ask. And I think my husband has been to the Delaware water gap but I don't think I have.

I merely stated my thoughts on it. Whether you agree with me or not....I don't care. Enjoy

I don't like it much either. People who really have autism have a harder time getting a diagnosis because it is the new trendy diagnosis. Doctors won't take you seriously when you really do have autism.

It seems like it's so easy to get the diagnoses when you do have it.

it does not matter if it is really trendy. The problem is a hell of a lot of people think it is.

In my area the big thing people think is trendy is oxycodone and other opiates. At least one article per day in the local paper about the opiate abuse epidermic. Whether abuse is really that much more then 10 years ago does not matter, like autism diagnosis, oxycodone is percieved to be handed out like candy, people who really need it have a tough time getting it or can not get it. Guilty until proven otherwise if you can.

It will be interesting to see how long that lasts for.

I've never actually heard the term used outside of WrongPlanet.

Autism is such a distant thing, and a source of fear; there are people who still have a vague notion that autism is caused by vaccines.

I have seen aspie used often in articles about autism in the mainstream media. Two different books on the history of autism have made the New York Times best seller list in the last year. While misunderstandings abound, Autism is not a niche interest anymore.

Niche interest about covers it. Now you have overkill. A$$hole guys have a new excuse to be jerks. Some even drag this crap into family court explaining their abhorrent behavior with a asd dx. Charming isn't it ?

I have a T-shirt that reads, "I have Asperger's, what's your super power?" It's mostly my attempt at raising awareness and prompting people to ask me about it, so I can give them accurate information in an attempt to curb the apparently popular new idea that AS is "cool" or "trendy", an idea most frequently held by those who don't actually have a clue what real autism is.
