I find myself more comfortable around children than adults. I guess its because I have about the same level of social skills as a 10 year old boy due to Aspergers, and that makes it easier to talk to younger people rather than people my age. Younger kids are more direct and straightforward, and they don't try to read your body language and face like adults and older teenagers do. A lot of them are still heavily into video games and Pokemon like me, which many people tend to "grow out" of in their teenage years.

I have two of my own kids and I love being a dad. I also like and feel protective of other kids but I don't find it any easier talking to kids than I do anyone else. I have all the social skills of a potted plant.

They are direct and like to do things over and over so we usually get along.

Children and severe handicapped people are easier to communicate with than average people. They are just natural.

Yes I relate to what you feel.

greetings all,

i don't want to be religious at all. i really don't follow a certain faith, however i am a student of religion and the concepts of it and am intrigued by it. i was raised christian, so i know some about the bible and other faiths.

Jesus spoke of wanting his children to be humble and childlike.... to me, children are just living life and do not dictate how it should be or what its outcome will be, nor do they care. in my life i tend to be the same way. i go moment by moment... i believe that is why i can relate to young people and the elderly as well... they live moment to moment. my peers are always looking for the next best thing, where to go, what to buy, what to wear... to me, that is all trivial... and they judge your behaviors and the way your mind works.

to me, not seeing the harsh realities, the constant crap on t.v. or believing that everything sucks is a blessing.

children don't see these things, they don't see color, they don't know what hate is, they don't judge, until they are taught. i guess, this is why i don't quite understand our society at all and can relate!

the biggest thing is that you can act goody, or make silly faces, be yourself and not worry, and they think it is funny....

with peace,

JanusOne :D

I love being around kids. I actually baby-sit and it is the best.

No. Children make me very anxious and uncomfortable because they are unpredictable and scream and yell and whine and get sick in public and their parents don't do a thing about it. There are a lot more kids around now that school's out for the summer, so now it's even worse.

I'm comfortable around older people. I adored them when I was a kid, and when I was a teenager I got along better with them than people my own age.

And it's weird, because I think that I am very childlike.

I don't really know how to interact with children, but they seem to like me. A lot of times they think I'm a teenager rather than a grown up, so maybe they think I'm more at their level? I'm not sure. My mom says it might be because I don't ignore them and I try to answer their questions and such. I definitely feel more comfortable with children than teenagers though, I didn't know how to interact with teenagers when I was one, and I don't any more now that I'm not.

When i was young, i would either get by with the adults, or with much younger kids than myself. Today, i almost hate kids. I try not give them any s**t and be nice to them because we all start out as kids but i try to avoid them whenever i can. They are loud, random, needy, dont have a sense of boundaries and are overall annoying. Its mostly a case of "live and let live"...

Peace

Yes and no. I don't feel comfortable around loud, over-excited children who are being noisy and very kinetic. I just want to get away. But when one or two children are being calm and sweet I do enjoy their company more than that of most adults, because there is still an innocence where they like some of the same things I still find joy in.

Someone mentioned being excited to find a butterfly -- I'm the same, I still enjoy very innocent things that other grownups would think I was strange-in-the-head for noticing or getting joy from. Children get joy from some of the same things I get joy from, but which most adults have "moved on" from.

Children under a certain age generally are not yet judgemental too -- I would say 8 is a good cut-off. Children up to around 8 are often still innocent enough to take people as they find them.

However, when I was a child myself I wasn't comfortable around other children as I found it hard to relate to them or form friendships. It's only as a grownup that I can have a better relationship with children as long as they aren't screaming or running around and causing my sensory shocks.

I'm pretty good at playing sports with children.

Not so good at interacting with them.

This is because I was poor at interacting with other kids when I was a kid, and I didn't obtain the normal "learning experiences" in that area.

I was poor-to-fair at sports--but I was able to "communicate" with other people through my actions during games.

I personally find children more difficult to be around. Obviously it depends on the child, but I just feel awkward around children most of the time. Maybe it's because I don't have a maternal bone in my body. Also I don't always know how I should speak to a child (especially if they are very little).

I don't mind my cousins, though. My youngest cousin is 5 and he's also classically autistic. I find him a billion times easier to be around than neurotypical children of his age. That being said, it did take time for me to feel more comfortable with him as, like I said, I'm not a fan of babies.

I love everyone, and especially babies, animals, and children, since I'm still a child at heart and am quite innocent.

My dad (undiagnosed with many ASD/Aspeger's traits) is VERY much like this. Totally at ease around kids, but cannot deal with adults.

I hear you. Even though I'm over 20, I still don't understand about adults much and I thought many children tend to have more sense than adults do. So, yeah, I feel more comfortable being around children and elders than being with people around my age.
