Should I get a second opinion or am I just not accepting DX?

He may have been asking questions quickly to "find the real you." Older Aspies may develop adaptations to better co-exist with "normal" people.

So I've been thinking about this over the last few days and talked to my Mum and a trusted friend. I even contacted a former psychologist who gave me some really good advice.

My Mum thinks the diagnosis it makes sense, as I had a lot of trouble reading social situations when I was a child. It explains a lot of things too. The psychiatrist is an expert with nearly 40 years experience in the area, so it would be foolish to doubt his skill.

I think I was just having trouble accepting it myself, despite the fact I had my suspicions that I was on the spectrum. I'm going to accept the diagnosis now and be happy that I can use this information to understand myself better and grow as a person.

Thanks everyone for you help and support here.

Tiabha, I'm glad you were able to further explore what to make of this diagnosis, and it sounds like you have reached some peace with the diagnosis. WrongPlanet is a great place to get ideas and analysis (mostly lay) and move forward.
