It's taken me a while to admit it, but I really have little sense of fashion whatsoever. I'm either trying to hard to look normal (which only ends up backfiring), or trying to look avant-garde in my style, but this just makes me look like a dork or a hipster, or perhaps a bit of both

Basically, I sometimes fail hard when trying to choose what to wear. Are people in the ASD population (autism/aspergers) prone to looking like a "fashion-disaster" from time to time? Quite a lot of these people dress with out-of-date items like trench coats, fedoras, leather jeans etc.

How is your dress-sense? I'm trying to work on making mine a bit more dignified. I mean I cringe when thinking back to some of the stuff I've worn in the past.

I am not a fashionista by any means. I don't care about the latest fashions and I don't understand them. I prefer practical clothes or technical sports clothes. I dress for comfort or sports functionality. But I can look nice. I know how to dress up nice and sometimes I enjoy that. But I also have no problem going out in old sweats with holes in them.

when i go out, there's basically two identical dark blue t-shirts and two pairs of denim shorts. i have my flip-flops (my first choice whenever it's not too weird), and a pair of brown shoes. and that's it. it took me years to figure out this combination, and i'm not changing it... i've been known to wear shorts all year round (even if the temperature outside may be around 10 degrees celsius), and i normally avoid wearing a hoodie because i'll sweat even if it's moderately cold (i don't drive, i only walk)

before i figured out this current combination, whatever i was wearing most of the time simply didn't feel right, but i had no idea what would feel right. shopping for clothes or shoes is one of the things i hate the most in the universe. i don't even mind it so much anymore when i buy stuff that i immediately dislike as soon as i get home. it's a fact of nature (even when i'm only trying to replace the exact same item, because... the exact same item after several years is usually something i'm not going to find. but at least, generally speaking, "plain dark blue t-shirt" and "long denim shorts" are probably things i'm always going to find)

I think I dress alright, but I dress very plainly. I usually wear something like a nice sweater or a t-shirt with jeans or sweatpants, or shorts/capris in the summer. I don't really wear accessories, layers or dresses that much. The only kinds of shoes I usually wear are sneakers and flip flops.

my year-round "uniform" usually is a gray tank top and khaki slacks, or black tank top and black slacks. in the winter I augment with a fuzzy jacket and windbreaker on top of that if need be.

I've worn the same style of clothes since the mid-70s although it seems that every 15 years or so I accidentally come back into fashion :) Presently I am sporting an elegant and extremely faded Black Flag t-shirt that coordinates perfectly with a two-year-old pair of straight-leg jeans. This ensemble is finished with a pair of black Converse low-tops and olive-green hiking socks.

I wear mostly middle of the road clothes price wise. I would say I have a decent sense of style, mixing/matching etc is not a problem. I have noticed that some Autistic people wear juvenile clothes for their age.. No sense of style whatsoever.

I dunno. I just wear clothes that are simple, comfortable, and functional. Nobody seems to gawk at me, so I guess it's not grossly unstylish.

No way! It's different, but it doesn't suck; mum used to be a fashion buyer and apparently I've inherited 'the eye'. 8)

My everyday wear is very jeans-and-a-tshirt, but I love looking stylish and well-groomed when there's occasion (and sometimes when there isn't :) ). Knowing you look great is a wonderful confidence-boost.

However, I do hate clothes shopping. I tend to splurge on clothes once or twice a year, usually buying somewhat more expensive stuff on the expectation that it be quality. Also, I tend to aim for more timeless attire, rather than following any shifts in fashion.

In short: no.

PS. Leather jackets are never wrong. DS.

Everyone else thinks I dress horribly, but I don't think I do. I've been told my clothes "don't match." I think comfortable matches comfortable perfectly well. What is there to match? Fabric composition? Year of assembly? Country of origin? My parameter choice is comfort. Everything I own is comfortable, so it all matches. I love tagless ring-spun cotton shirts.

I only wear green shirts and cargo pants/shorts, so I don't know.

Most of the time I wear whatever I want that's comfortable. I am no longer able to work because of other health issues, and rarely go out, so this isn't a problem around the house. When going out, I wear a nice pair of slacks, and a nice top. If it's cool or cold, I add a sweater or coat. If my hair is in a long, shaggy state, I wear a head band when going out, and a hat if it's cold. When going out, I pick slacks and tops that go together, color wise. Don't have dozens of shoes in different colors, as that never made sense to me. Have a pair of mostly white running shoes, a black pair of running shoes that can pass as shoes, a pair of sandals, and a couple pair of slippers. I've never been one to really dress up. The last time I dressed fancy was several decades ago, for my eighth grade graduation, and I only wore that dress that one time. What a waste of money. There were a couple of times after that, when I wore a navy skirt. Once was for the eighth grade graduation class party, and a year or two later I wore the same skirt for a relative's wedding. It wasn't a real big affair, as both bride and groom were elderly and widowed. Old as they were, they managed to live a good many years more. She was my favorite great aunt, so I was willing to wear the skirt and attend a social function because it was for her. I even remember her first husband, who died decades ago. I liked him more than her second husband, but I have nothing against her second husband. It has to do with the type of people they were.

Where am I? AAAAAHHHHH!! !! ! I've entered the digression zone! Sorry.

Basically, I mostly ignore fashion, and wear what I like that is also comfy. I also don't like skirts and dresses, and don't look good in them anyway. People don't always like the way I dress, but we each get to choose what we wear, and I do dress somewhat better when going out. I am under no obligation to wear what others want me to wear. The one exception would be job related, and I always dressed within job requirements. Of course, I never applied for jobs at any place fancy, as I hate dressing fancy, and can't afford a whole new wardrobe of fancy clothes anyway.

My advice is to wear what you want, within reasonable limits. There is plenty of room within "reasonable" limits.

I've been broke for so long that 90% of my clothes are years old, I just throw on whatever feels comfortable and looks respectable enough, tbh I couldn't give a donkey's backside what I look like as long as I don't consider myself obscene or confrontational with what I wear, I might start looking for cheap clothes soon as they've not been priority but I'm sick of things with holes and outgrowing stuff due to being healthier and gaining more weight, some people have said they like what I'm wearing at points over the last year and a half and I've said well I just grab whatever I've managed to acquire or have left over the years into a pile and pick what to combine lol, no science to it.
