Hm, odd. I've heard some Autistic people have better peripheral vision than "central vision".

Yeah. If he means it literally thats ridiculous.Autistics have the same eye anatomy as everyone else.

But if he means it figuratively (- like that autistics dont notice things peripheral to their obsessions, or that they cant deal with unexpect stuff coming out of left field) then that might actually be a good metaphor for autism.

Though I assume the OP was simply referring to a lack of peripheral awareness (which I identify with to some degree), the idea of literal lack of peripheral vision doesn't sound impossible either. The brain still has to process, interpret and relay meaningful information from the eyes.

Even among physically identical eyes (if that were possible), two people could see very differently from each other. Differences in the brain's wiring, underdevelopment, lesions, etc. could present viewers with significantly different pictures. I would think better or worse peripheral vision could be among those differences depending on how someone is "wired".

I've even heard of some autistic people having tunnel vision or it's opposite ("central field loss") not due to physical eye issues.
