Is entertainment important to you?

Yes, if your aim is to get along with other people, entertainment can be extremely useful.
It can be useful for getting on with people from various backgrounds and is probably one of the easiest way of getting on with people in the workplace especially in the mainstream.
Over the years, i have noticed this trend as well and realise that this is one of the reasons why i often don't get on with the people whom i work with, as i often have no common ground to "small talk" communicate with my work buddies with.
Now, completely using basic stereotypes, while working in various jobs I have noted the interests of the people whom i work with. And i have worked in a number of different areas that include on building sites, in offices and banks and in bars.
In the UK, when working with men on building sites, being able to talk about popular sports such as Football (soccer), Rugby and Boxing with get you in with the crowd, while also being able to talk superficially and unintelligently (and often with prejudice) about daily news and the size of the tits of the girl in the daily paper.
If working in offices, talking about the size of tits of the girl in the daily paper may be good if you're a man talking to another man, but this would not be generally advised if you are a man talking to a woman colleague.
The general male sport talk may still be welcome and still get you in with the boss, but you may have to find your what sports or interests your colleagues have before talking at length on these subjects, as they also may be uninterested and thus get annoyed if you talk for too long about any of these subjects.
Now, if you are working a regular day job. I.e. 7 or so hours a day. Going home at the night or end of your shift.
Then you will likely be expected to slot into the normal routine of going home after work and watching soap operas to unwind. Woman in particular appear to thrive off Soaps.
I personally have no idea as to why this is, as I find soaps extremely boring, and more than a little suspect as possibly being socio-religious-political propaganda designed to manipulate and mold the nations perceptions into perceptions that either further the political agenda of the people backing the soaps or at the very least for optimising the consumerist money making machine.
But alas as to what devious and devilish purpose for what they have been designed for, I will have to say that understanding the current topic matter in soaps are likely one way of getting along with your domesticated, dormant and generally sedentary work colleagues.
Although i have to admit, i would probably prefer to top myself than force myself to watch hours of crap each week just so i can get along with the people whom i work with. No offense to the people who watch soaps or who are doing their best to care for their families, all honorable activities.
Personally, i would find watching soaps each day a breach of my human rights and freedom. But that's just me.
Yes. For the most part, the reason why i know what things to do to get on with my work colleagues is that in life i have generally not done these things and this has been a factor in why i have not been as successful as i perhaps should have been.
While working on building sites, while my colleagues read the Sun newspaper, and talked about how much they hated this race or that race or gays etc. and how many pints they drunk the night before and how much they stole from someone. I spent my time and money learning guitar, art, and reading the chinese classics. (Toaism etc).
When working in offices, while working with elderly woman who gossiped and talked about soaps all day, i talked about trained in BJJ, Kendo, Aikido and my analysis of music production.
I, tried to fit in but had no capacity to watch soaps or do the boring nor malicious stuff these people were into.
These factors have really made my employment life extremely difficult, as I am a creative and spiritual person living in an extremely uncreative and spiritually dead employment environment. But alas, this is the world of offshore finance. I wonder some times if even the rich "winners" from this finance industry are happy.
Probably not, probably just faking it to themselves, pretending everything is alright. but behind those designer glasses and pin stripe suits, their is someone even more screwd up than us aspo's.
but nevermind. please dont let my negativity put you off. Take the good from the bad. and I hope you reap the rewards you are looking for.

I don't think that I could bear to watch soap operas either. Also, as mentioned previously, I mostly don't watch the television shows, I just look them up on the internet and research. I derive pleasure from this research, and it makes me happy to know that I have common knowledge with other people, even if I don't employ it. I don't know why. I guess it makes me feel confident, knowing that I know what other, 'normal', people know. So don't worry about putting me off.

Too often, people say things they don't mean, and mean things they don't say.
Entertainment is very important to me. All of my special interests (past and present) have been TV shows, movies, or musicians. I don't know what I would do without them, honestly. Through my special interest currently, I have made a couple friends and had lots of good conversations with other fans. When times get rough, I also turn to Doctor Who for comfort and will watch several episodes at a time or read fanfiction.

When I was a kid I read to escape, and as a teenager I learned how to behave from Neighbours, Home & Away and Heartbreak High (although it was always the oddball characters I developed a liking for).
Then there was Xena:Warrior Princess and Buffy the Vampire Slayer - they're both really important to me.

Many of my short-term special interests are TV shows/films, but I find that I cannot sustain them because I run out of material to learn. My long-term special interest (for 6 years now) is ASD.
