Congrats on feeling better for getting your diagnosis. Will the diagnosis make it easier for you now to try and improve yourself in ways that you want?

When I was diagnosed I felt really good about it too because I knew something was wrong with me as I never meshed in with any of the kids in any school I ever went to, it brought a lot of explanation and if you read further into it in a psychology sense it gets even more batshit and interesting so good luck. Just remember, this doesn't make you some kind of special snowflake or whatever, you're still the individual you are.

If anyone else from the UK can afford it and doesn't want to wait on a ridiculously long waiting list I recommend signing up with Bupa and getting a private referral to the NAS. http://www.autism.org.uk/services/diagn ... ostic.aspx

Humour on : There was me thinking it was "Rasperry Pi - Apple of me eye" in the rhyming slang.

Was it an NHS assesment , if so , how long did you have to wait and which borough were you tested ?

It was an NHS assessment and I had to wait 7 months after passing preliminary screening (filling in a few questionnaires). I'm in Cornwall which luckily has a self-referral scheme.

Thank you and yes, it will help.

I'm far too old to consider myself any sort of snowflake. I'm more of a cold puddle on the floor now :)

Ha! Although mentioning Raspberry Pi and Apple in the same sentence should be frowned upon :)

Thanks for that. Now you've mentioned Cornwall it's rung a bell , I'm sure you've mentioned this before.

Good on Cornwall.
After diagnosis as an adult one is probbaly on ones own resources, BUT, the diagnosis can make narrowing down causes of troubling situations much quicker. it certainly helped me as a starting point when i generated myseslf a pile of stress on a recent big job I wold rather not have won.

Agreed, but I asked about support and after a long pause she admitted that there was none. To be honest, I knew that already as I'd checked for Asperger's groups and only found support for children or parents of children. I guess they'll all magically get better once they hit adulthood.

Congratulations. And for staying married 30 years also.

Cheers! I honestly don't know how she puts up with me. Seriously though, she just gets me and always has. If I meltdown she knows that it's best to just leave me alone, she knows that I don't need hugs and kisses every five minutes to reassure me that she loves me, she knows that just because I may enjoy being on my own a lot that I don't love her any less, she's also not scared to say "shut up now, please" when I waffle on too long about film or music, knowing that I need that sort of guidance :) She's a lovely lady and I know that I'm a very, very lucky person.

Now, if I can only get her to stop putting stinky fabric conditioner on my clothes... still what's life without a challenge!

I think it's very healthy to joke about this stuff for you and your wife. I'm crippled as well as autistic. Big difference between joking about and making fun of. Congrats on finally getting your mental matter settled.
