Another way to convince your clinicians to pursue a diagnostic assessment is to show them a recognized screening test score. One such screening test is the University of Cambridge Autism Research Centre's Autism Spectrum Quotien (AQ) test. Here is an auto-scoring version of the test republished verbatim by Wired magazine: ( https://www.wired.com/2001/12/aqtest/ ). The only change with the test is that the stated threshold score of 32 has been updated over the years since its original publication from 32 to 28, then 35 or 36.

So, you might convince your clinicians to pursure an assessment if your AQ score is over 32.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.

Thank you! I got a reply from a local psychiatrist asking me to fill the AQ and EQ tests, after which he'd get back (still waiting). AQ is 38 and EQ 16 (EQ version with 40 questions only).

Your scores are beyond threshold in any case. I hope that your clinicians see them as helpful. Good luck!

Thank you!

Your neurodiverse (Aspie) score: 139 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 67 of 200
You are very likely neurodiverse (Aspie)

Neither I understand why it is so difficult in Denmark.
Money?

Thanks! I have the feeling it's not money. I did get referred to the psychiatrist and the psychologist, so it's not a lack of referral. I think it may have to do, rather, with lack of experience in adult ASD, and professionals getting a little too comfortable in how they do things and not wanting to deviate from that.

Ib Kollerup also accepts requests for assessment, but apparently only from the kommune, not directly from your GP.

It says on his website:
Quote:
Hvis kommunen vurderer at du bør udredes, kan kommunen sende en anmodning om speciallægeundersøgelse som da vil kunne foregå uden udgifter for dig.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's by Ib Kollerup yesterday. My GP/kommune didn't want to refer me, so I chose to pay for the assessment myself (5,000 DKK).

I didn't find him arrogant at all—quite the opposite.

Thanks for sharing! I ended up getting an appointment with LaBianca and I've gone twice now; she told me she doesn't give a diagnosis until after 3-4 appointments. I feel the pressure!

You're welcome! In my case I had a an email correspondence with the psychiatrist and took the AQ, EQ and RAADS-R tests and sent them to him (including my answers) and then had the assessment which took 4-5 hours (I live in a different part of the country, so a single long session instead of multiple shorter ones suited me great).

Good luck with the diagnosis! :)

That is about $750 with the current exchange rate, quite a bit less that what one would pay in the USA.

The reason, I found Kollerup arrogant is, that when I first contacted him (after two informal dx´es), he asked me to do an AQ and an EQ. (Aq 36 and EQ 27) "You´re not autistic", he wrote - and never bothered to answer me again.
Luckily, I found someone less superficial.

It was even slightly worse for me, because I sent him the AQ and EQ test answers back, and he didn't even reply. I'm a psychologist and I honestly don't think that's an appropriate way of screening people at all.

My point exactly. Take it easy. LaBianca knows, what she is doing - and she should be one of the best for women.

I am sorry to not be able to advise you, but my husband is Danish aged 48 and had the same problem. I thought it was because when he was younger his parents knew something was different about him, but the fears of him being taken away were paramount. So it was always kept under wraps, no diagnoses or anything, it was all hidden.

We lived in Denmark (2004) for year as a family and my it became more apparent that my husband was having difficuities. He viisted the GP and they put him on anti-depressentants and would not listen to anything else about my husband was having difficulties with.

Meanwhile our son was having developmental delays and we went to the gp and got referred to the hospital, he was tested for a chomosome disorder and because he was so far behind in his delays the hospital staff tried to refer him to a institution, but we refused, they said they could not longer help us unless we referred him. It must be how the system is over there.

Maybe they are trying to protect you, I had spoke to someone else and they moved from Denmark because the hosptial wanted to also put their child into an institution. It is a shame but it seems that if people have a disabitlity they deal with it the old fashioned way. I could be wrong but that is our experience.

Denmark is boasting about being progressive - but is - to the bone-marrow - stone conservative!
