Taking credit for other people's accomplishments

you do write nice poems, though...
I'm not afraid to take credit for my accompliments, as a matter of fact I do so quite proudly.
I have never taken credit for other people's accomplishments, though. I think it'll be lying to MYSELF, primarily.
I have allowed other people to take credit for my accomplishments, but only minorly. For example, I'll be pissed off if I did a drawing for a competition, and someone pops out of somewhere and claims they drew it themselves.

Has anyone ever heard of an Aspie doing this? The reason I ask is that I've heard from several sources that someone I know, who I'm pretty sure has AS, does this.
I would never consider taking credit for someone else's work; it goes against my basic code of ethics. Is this a big red sign that I was wrong about this person?

having ethics is nothing to do with medical labels.

That's true, but one of the characteristics of AS is that most Aspies have a very strong sense of social justice. The majority of books and websites I've looked at have mentioned this fact.
Doing something as blatantly unethical as knowingly taking credit for someone else's accomplishments seems to be very uncharacteristic of someone with AS.
Of course, I do realize that there are other mental conditions that can be found along with AS that might lead to someone acting this way. Or he could just be an ass.

it's mistake to think that all people with AS are nice ethical individuals.
personally, i would do most things if the motivation was there and i thought i could get away with it.
Everyone has a price whether they have as or not. I think this is the more important thing to consider rather than the act itself.

I would agree that these popular notions like "aspies do not lie", "aspies have a great sense of justice", etc are over-simplifications. What aspies do tend to be (in my experience) is quite genuine under most circumstances. There are definitely a lot of principled, honest people with AS. But many aspies also are impulsive and if such individuals are also pleasure-seekers, they might not possess the inhibitions to keep from doing whatever they please to get what they want. I've known a couple apparent aspies who would not hesitate to be dishonest. And sure, they were upset about unfairness, but generally only when they were the victims, since their empathy skills weren't that hot. Those dudes are not anywhere near as scary as a sociopath, though, because they're more transparent and not sadistic (just selfish). Hopefully that makes sense?

You're both right, and I'm doing the same thing I've advised others on here not to do. It seems I've fallen into the black and white thinking trap.

But I'm certainly no angel either, not always "good" and ethically pure.

No one's perfect, but some people consistently and knowingly act in this way. That's when there's a problem. I can't say that this guy knowingly does all the things I've heard about, because I'm not in his head. He seems to very consistent about it though.

I get the feeling this person I know has a very severe case of mindblindness. He doesn't seem to understand that other people have feelings at all. He will do and say things that make people really dislike him, but seems upset when told that people think badly of him. He doesn't seem to see the cause and effect relationship between how he treats people and what they think of him.
Hiya, im new here!, just read ur thread and wanted to quote you cos my Ex-Boss was exactly the same!! !!. I knew he was in the autistic spectrum (though noone at work did really know, not even him probably..) since my mum and sis have aspergers, or traits, i could tell he was on the spectrum but, wat is worse is he´s attitude towards his employees, and he definately had a VERY severe case of mindblindness like u said.
My mum and sis would Never ever do somth like that!!, so i think he is just an Ass, cos having asperger doesnt mean you can treat people so bad ( and he knew, he just didnt care.. apart from being mindblinded)
