Do you say/make dumb things that you regret later?

I've said thing that I really shouldn't have. It happens a lot if I'm excited and have a lot of energy. I still cringe at some things I've said years ago and feel embarrassed around the people I've said it too.

ALL THE TIME. My dad told me to put my hand over my mouth before saying something stupid, but that didn't work, as it's out of my mouth before I realize it's stupid.

I'm not sure who said this ( I think it's origin comes from the Bible ) but one of my favourite quotes is
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."

Yes, I've found remembering the saying "The less said the better" useful in important discussions, it reduces the likelihood I will say something inappropriate.

When I do, I just remind myself that 95% of the time, people don't care and will forget about it by the next day.

That's happened to me plenty of times in my life. There still are times, even at age 56, that I almost totally lack a "filter."

Fortunately, my recently-acquired sense of humor has helped me out of some of these situations.

I'm also thinking of Richard in "Keeping up Appearances," the husband of Mrs. Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Buck-kay).

He also had something sensible to say, but Hyacinth would cut him off.

Yes. All the time. I've been known to remember these incidents YEARS later and cringe over them.

And they often don't seem dumb to other people.
