It can go either way, either learning a few skills and gathering friends, or things coming apart when the social requirements exceed the limits in ones autistic profile.

Primary school or nursery is a point boys are identified, secondary school was a point girls would be diagnosed, going to college or starting work is another pinch point.

I had friends till about 6th grade when people started realizing it's not just a quirk and I became the weird kid.

I never really had friends growing up, but I'm making up for it now. I chose activities related to my interests (tennis, singing, dancing and watercolor painting). It is funny that I'm taking tennis lessons now, because I was never athletic when I was young. I had a strong desire to do something active and improve my social skills. I chose tennis because I enjoy watching it and found inspiration from Denis Istomin, who overcame the greatest obstacle of all, surviving a car accident as a teenager that sent him to a hospital in Uzbekistan. He broke his leg and was at the brink of death. Doctors said he would never play again. They were wrong.
