Do you hate going to a restaurant alone?

Not at all.

I don't have to worry about conversations. I can have a good meal and do some reading. I don't care if people in the restaurant are judging me for it.

I have no issue with going to movies alone either.

Since I don't drink, I rarely go to bars so that's never been a consideration.

Dont really like restaurants or even shops for that matter... When travelling i will look for the emptiest restaurant as i did my last trip... Dont like eating alone nor busy restaurants.

My mom is the only person I usually go out to eat with. I don't like going alone mainly because then I have to pay for the food.

Fast-food places aren't so bad, but the casual dining restaurants we normally eat at are expensive. Whenever I've gone alone it was usually only to order the dessert. And then you're supposed to tip the servers. I never know how much I'm supposed to tip because I suck at math. I know it's supposed to be more than 10% only because of that Weird Al song "Young, Dumb, and Ugly" where he sings about what a bad dude he is because he only leaves a 10% tip.

Until my tongue cancer made me need a feeding tube I went to restaurants and pubs and most everyplace alone most of the time. I liked it. I was a regular in a local pub and after awhile they knew me and I did converse there and that was good also.

I prefer eating alone while reading a newspaper or researching on net, cinema is much better on my own, even better when just me in there, though a well behaved audience is fine too!

Every Aug. 20, or as close to it as I can get, I visit one of my favorite restaurants alone (the one that resembles the Prancing Pony) and read an archaeology or history magazine while eating. I did this first a few days after getting diagnosed with autism. It is quite relaxing. Now, it is a "thing" to be done every year.

To me, Ferris, it wouldn't matter if you were "technically" an Aspie or not. I'm not "technically" an Aspie myself because of my rather severe speech delay. I am on the Spectrum, though.

And you could be, too, even while not "technically" being an Aspie.

Even if it turns out you are not on the Spectrum, you still have many of the same challenges as we do. So....you definitely "belong" on WrongPlanet.

There is no "rule" which states you must be on the Spectrum to relate to people on the Spectrum.

Anyway....there will be some diagnosticians who don't think you're on the Spectrum, and others that do believe you are on it. It's based upon how the individual diagnostician views the Spectrum. Unlike classical, Kanner autism, the symptoms of Aspergers/high-functioning autism are not so clear-cut.

I believe, at the very least, that you have at least some "spectrumly" symptoms.

I don't go to restaurants period. I hate the noise, the interaction, and I don't trust the food industry in general (not sure what I'm getting, don't trust cooking staff to properly handle the food, etc.). I started cooking at 8, real cooking, not slapping crap in the oven or microwave, so why go someplace where I'm bound to be disappointed by the results and pay extra for the privilege? Forget alone or in company, for me restaurants are just a bad deal.

I've only been to a restaurant alone once, but I didn't enjoy it.

Ugh, if I ever had to go to a restaurant alone, it would never be a fast food one because I don't even like sitting in those places when I'm with someone, I'd sooner get a take-away. I often feel uneasy in fast food places because the staff are usually impatient and unfriendly and you get a lot of oiks and chavvy people going in. Plus fast food restaurants can get so very overcrowded and I'd be afraid people will sit at my table with a load of noisy little kids, or worse a crowd of rowdy teenagers. I would not be able to relax and enjoy my food with a load of strangers sitting at my table. I'd feel uncomfortable.

It depends on the decor/atmosphere - some places don't want solo diners so I avoid that. Some - few, actually - are fine with people eating alone and I enjoy those. Assuming they are vegan, not too loud, not too bright ... don't find many. I used to have a dining partner who would choose a new restaurant once a week. And I mean 'new'. Most were great but didn't last long.
