If you're asked about something that interests you, I'd bet your processing time increases.

Make use of your accommodations. Take advantage of untimed tests.

You're actually a very fast poster/good typist.

You don't exhibit slow processing when you answer something on WP.

You certainly don't as you thought of those reasons very quickly.

How can you do things e.g. debate, converse and discuss, well if you think so damn slow.

Like everything in life , if you have a deficiency you usually do things to compensate it in some way if it's a problem for you , I use stalling & distraction tactics i.e talk a little slower , drop something , cough

Bottom 0.1% though.

As Kraftie said practice might be the answer , you just need to find the right thing to practice , it's not the same for everyone , we all learn differently. Even something as simple as giving a one word statement opener can buy yourself some time e.g. after being asked a question you obviously have an allotted time for a response before it might get awkward , when you work out this allotted time you can then say "Well...." , "As I see it..." which then extends your thinking time.
You could watch video's of people debating and pick up little tricks from them or watch politicians who are masters of talking s**t when they don't have the answer - although be careful imitating politician's you don't want to come across as a snake

The stupid thing is I am not even sure how well an IQ test (online or professionally administered) can predict the overall intelligence of someone with a 'spiky' profile.
What I do know from online testing is that my nonverbal/spatial ability is markedly inferior to my verbal ability .

quote from the guardian

Quote:
Having a high IQ score does not mean that someone is intelligent. IQ tests only capture analytical intelligence; this is the ability to notice patterns and solve analytical problems. Most standard IQ tests miss out two other aspects of human intelligence: creative and practical intelligence. Creative intelligence is our ability to deal with novel situations. Practical intelligence is our ability to get things done. For the first 20 years of life, people are rewarded for their analytical intelligence. Then we wonder why the “best and brightest” are uncreative and practically useless.

You can be an absolute genius and have slow processing.

Slow processing speeds result in lower scores on IQ tests.

I bet Einstein fit that profile; hence, he sucked in school, but did great in quantum physics once he was given the time to promulgate his theories.

I just did this test and noticed that these tests are said to improve with brain training exercises and I think to an extent my generation and younger score a lot better ( also have better hand/eye coordination ) due to playing a lot of video games - just a theory :D

Firemonkey,

You are a very articulate person. I also score high on verbal subtests and general knowledge and markedly lower on non-verbal tests. I completely bombed out on the block design portion of the Weschler intelligence test. The tester was also condescending and nasty to me. I don't think I got a fair chance to try. This is the kind of person who is a supposed "expert" in identifying learning problems and helping people. She didn't help me at all. Quite the contrary. I continued to get good grades in college, but my confidence took a major hit.

I may have mentioned,at some point while here, of my difficulty in applying what intelligence I supposedly have to real life, practical situations.
For want of a better analogy; it's like batting .300 in practice sessions only to bat .230 in actual games .

I agree , there is also another factor - you could just be poor at taking tests in general due to anxiety etc

I know with exams it very much depended on how I felt on the day. One thing I struggle with is the timed aspect of tests. Balancing looking at a question with sufficient depth vs answering all the questions in the time allotted.
I tend to overcompensate due to the fear of running out of time which results in my sometimes taking a guess rather than thinking much about the question.
I guess my time management skills aren't very good.

Replying to myself. First sign of internet madness? Oh well! I retook a nonverbal test taking my time over the answers and not thinking about time restraints. I only answered 34/50 questions as opposed to the full 50 previously . The IQ I got (63) was no different opting for taking my time to get the answers right ,and answering less questions, vs thinking less about the answers and answering more questions.

No, you quoted the relevant posts so your post was understood , not the first sign of internet madness , you will have to try harder if you want to come across as mad

Because it takes you longer to deduce the answer and IQ tests are sometimes time specific you should just give up on them because they are not an accurate gauge of intelligence for someone like you.

Mine changes each time I take a test, so it's a bunch of BS really. Autistics tend to score better on non-verbal tests like the Ravens than standard iq tests.

I think Andy Warhols iq was 80 which is considered ret*d even though people consider him genius.

Here a list of "geniuses" with non genius iqs.

A lot of it for me is down to low self esteem, and the feeling of being fundamentally inferior.

I do think having a probable learning difficulty(learning disability in US terms) adds to the " Am I smart or am I dumb ?" debate that rages in my head.

Exactly , although easier said than done you need to address your self esteem before your rate your IQ or you'll be caught in a perpetual loop of negativity
