It seems unlikely to me. He doesn't seem to have many autistic traits, except for being insensitive. He doesn't seem to stim or have sensory issues or special interests, and I've never heard that he was seriously socially impaired in his younger days. Also, autistics tend to have issues with anxiety and need for routines and time alone, which would probably make it hard to be president.

The person in the article who said is just using the word "autistic" as an epithet, and doesn't even really understand what the word means.

It's not hard to see how being president ages people. Why would an autistic person want to be surrounded by that many people, have to deal with so many potential emergencies, interruptions, and live by a routine dictated by country?

I think many people are baffled by Trump's narcissistic behavior and don't want to see it as such, because it means examining their own similar behavior in an unfamiliar light. Why they are so surprised by Trump, I don't know. Everyone has a little Trump in them, and I think many ancient rulers were far worse than this guy (bad as he is).

I heard it on the news today and have to say I thought the same thing. Interestingly enough, the report came on simultaneously with one about a local Australian celebrity, Don Burke, who's been accused of sexually predatory behaviour on women and says he thinks it's because he's on the spectrum. I would have to agree, as I think the only things that make men like this offensive is their tendency to speak what should remain unspoken.

While I do believe the poster meant what they wrote, I don't believe they meant to imply that he had the Autistic characteristics & experience that you live, EzraS.

I think what they more likely meant is something more along the lines of "This guy is so socially clueless that there is no other logical explanation for his behaviour other than him being Autistic, because A N Y O N E else wouldn't make that sort of extreme social blunder and expect it to be well received as if it were praise."

With Trump:

Classic Autism: 0% chance

Asperger's: 1% chance, if that.

Senility and autism are two entirely different things.

What it takes to be elected President doesn't seem at all compatible with being Autistic or anything close to it.

I just read a HuffPost Politics article about Donald Trump referring to Elizabeth Warren as "Pocahontas," at a ceremony intended to honour Native American veterans - namely Navajo Code Talkers - and one of the commenters on the Facebook post wrote "Autism. Full blown autism."

I've read a few speculations in the past that Barron Trump is on the spectrum (he's out of public view, so who knows ? IMO) but the more I see his father's social blunders make daily headlines the more I think it might not just be Narcissism & Dementia, but could very well be ASD.

I remember some thread debates about whether Obama was an Aspie, but his social missteps were few and far between in comparison and IIRC it was more about the prosody of his speech, memory recall, encyclopedic knowledge of various topics etc but with Trump it's definitely more about his very public social blunders.

The commenter who wrote "Autism. Full blown autism." followed up with a post saying "Yeah. Autism has a strong hereditary component - Barron may have inherited it from dad. ..I just keep seeing the many social and reactive blunders he makes, the lack of integrated/nuanced thoughts, the preference for routine, the binary thinking, how quickly he is overwhelmed by the load of information coming at him, and I keep seeing autism."

Thoughts?

Not a chance in hell. Hes a television personality FSS. Of course you think that autism comes from poop bacteria and that big pharma has some conspiracy to keep everyone sick so who cares what you think.

BUT! BUT! BUT!

Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean that they couldn't be an aspie!

That's what someone is gonna say. So I decided to beat them to the punchline. Even though its irrelevant. Buttheads come in every neurotype.

Adam Lanza was diagnosed with Aspergers and Sensory Processing Disorder at Yale. But I still think Trump has a trait that is the opposite of a core aspie one.

Jim Parsons' character, Sheldon, in The Big Bang Theory, is a TV personality & he's an Aspie both on screen and in real life.

It's not what I think, it what I know. It is definitely exacerbated by an imbalance of intestinal flora. Modern medicine is slowly studying the gut micro-biome & it's correlation to ASD and will slowly but surely prove all of this as time goes on. Probiotic treatments have been tested and observed in ASD presenting mice, I've been doing it for myself for over 4 years now, and eventually medical studies and human trials will be done with groups of Autistic people.

Do you mean that Jim Parsons is an Aspie? Because I looked that up, and the results don't seem to support that. Or do you mean Sheldon himself? (I'm not that familiar with the show.)
