I get told that I look depressed a lot. I guess that I just happen to have that type of a face.

Yeah I've gotten that a bit - "put a smile on your dial". Which irritates me so much, do I want to be fake? "Give me a reason to smile - say something funny. Then again often it was customer service, and now I've learned to think about something happy/funny - though even when I'm smiling to my self, people question it "What are you smiling about?"
And sometimes it can creep people out! You just can't win with NT's

The other part goes to looking angry, the other parts could either too cheerful, too childish, or too hyper.
The last and lesser fraction part would mean suspicious or creepy.
Do people considered that I'm not always in a mood to smile?

I've certainly done my fair share of creeping people out. Now that I've learned to be indifferent - NT's love it. Still have to catch myself from getting too excited, then I can get super friendly and come over a bit strong.
Yeah NT's fake a lot of their pleasant moods, and they fake a lot of facebook/instagram too.

Yes. My mom says I don't even know how to smile. I always tend to have the same facial expression and it makes me look sad. I'm not usually.

Yes, I've had people tend to think I'm depressed since, I'm not super talkative, in that I'm not always running my mouth at 30,000mph. I tend to measure what I say and focus on more important things. As well my facial expressions tend to take a more serious demeanor.

I get asked a lot: "Are you okay??"

I don't know if I look depressed or not, I just sometimes get a really blank or intense look. It's usually when I'm lost in thought, good or bad.

Depression is a diagnosis, not an emotion

Emotions are:. Happy, sad, angry, scared, surprised

Emotions are not:. Mad, bad, upset, depressed, sorry

Someone had the nerve to tell me "why are you smiling?"

Someone had the nerve to tell me "smile"

"You don't look depressed"

"You're mad"

I hate the word "mad". Connotation versus denotation. It sounds like nobody should ever be "mad". The correct word is "angry". I hate the word "mad" so much, I do not even like the word "mad " to refer to someone I hate

There are many I hate

And the hatred is strong

Sometimes it is easier to just avoid everyone

The other thing I do not understand, is why neurotypicals, especially extroverts have the nerve to comment on my facial expressions

It's like their egoes are so large they truly believe that they have a moral entitlement to get whatever they want immediately

I have my normal expression, which looks completely plain but it feels like I am feeling rather down or something. My parents have noticed and told me that I look really sad all of the time and that I need to smile more. Maybe I should, but I am okay with everything for now, even if I look sad or something....

Oh yes! When people comment "smile"! Or, she looks depressed. Horrifying.

I've had so many people ask me why I am shy or why I always look so sad. How would anyone answer that...

I think I often look tired or angry but people rarely tell me. There was one person who always asked why I look so sad though I didn't feel sad myself. And sometimes people may think I smile at wrong place/time because I can't even not to smile when sun shines directly to my face.

They often think I look upset or that something is bothering me when that is not the case.

My daughter asks me if I’m okay when she sees my ‘lost in thoughts’ face. That’s not so bad, considering my son starts crying when I laugh too loudly.

Agree. And love this phrase; "Depression is a diagnosis, not an emotion" I'll save that as a concise retort.

Upset could be an emotion, similar to irritation with either anger, disappointment, sadness or all three.

I think NT's wonder why we are smiling because they are nosey, but also curious to share in anothers happiness.

Angry angry angry

That could be the reason why NTs wonder why you are smiling

But why do they ask you?

Big egoes

Like, they truly believe that they have a moral right, to veto anything you do just because they don't like it.

Even something as small as smiling

Majority versus minority
