Folks with old age dementia are not usually allowed to drive. And autistics are not impaired in locomotion (our legs are normal) so I don't see how autistic drivers are entitled "handicapped parking" permits. We autistics and aspies can walk as far as able bodied NTs.

People with dementia can easily qualify for handicapped permits to allow whoever drives them to park close enough for them to walk.

I am physically disabled, so I have a permit. My car is a refuge from over-stimulation and oncoming meltdowns. In addition, it makes it easier to to find my car.

I used to ride bicycles about 3,000 to 5,000 miles every year. One of the advantages was having my bike rack on top of the car. That always made my car really easy to spot in a big parking lot.

If anything I'd like a pass that's let's me park as far away from all the other cars as possible while still being in proximity to my destination. Don't think they've got any of those.

I don't really get it, like whenever I get my drivers licence I would not get such a tag...I can walk just fine and navigate in a parking lot even if it is a hassle. but seriously those should be for people with physical impairments that affect movement....as the purpose is they wont have to go as far. And in my experience no amount of being able to park in a handicap spot would neutralize the effects of trying to go into a store on a crowded day. Like I cannot even think, so makes it hard to figure out what to get or what I even came in for when there are tons of people crowding the store with all their stress and their vibes....ahh drives me almost insane every time and disrupts me from being able to concentrate on the shopping I have to get done.

Like seriously something about it, whenever I am looking for something and a bunch more people come in the, spot I am looking I get too stressed out and sometimes don't even actually get what I was looking for because I just want to get away from the people.

Copied the following from the NAS website, as you can see it rightly doesn't mean we are all eligible.

The current rules focus on a person’s physical ability to walk. But we know that, for example, many autistic people can experience too much information from the environment around them on public transport, while other autistic people might not be aware of dangers on the road.

The proposed changes would mean that someone would qualify for a Blue Badge if they have difficulty when walking, if making a journey might put them at risk, or if someone can’t make any journey without help. This change would include some autistic people and the Government’s aims of the changes are to improve support for people with hidden disabilities.

That's very good news.
