I don't really care. I have high pain tolerance. I love seeing my dentist, too. Isn't autism associated with being fearless? I've been rather fearless since I was a tot. I'm just scared of worms.

I'm not afraid of blood tests but then again, I'm a medical lab scientist. I play with blood, pee pee, poop, etc and I can draw blood but I haven't done so in years. I just don't like it when nurses spend like 15 mins looking for a vein in my arm though. Makes me want to grab it and draw my own self.

My pain tolerance is quite high so dentist appointments are my jam. Tattoo feels great too, like extremely good. Wish there's a way to combine the two, ah yeah...

I am absolutely terrified of needles. I’ve passed out numerous times having them stuck into me - I also passed out when I saw my mom’s drip being removed. I weep like a little child when I get blood taken. It’s not the pain, or the sight of blood, it’s the fact that metal is inside me (I have big issues with metal utensils, pots, tin foil etc.) so needles are probably the worst manifestation of metal!

The only thing that helps me with getting them done is asking for the smallest size needle as possible, and getting a numbing patch to put on a few hours before I’m due to get blood. My doc always gives me the patches to put on, and the combination of that and the tiny needle means I don’t feel it at all. I just stare at the wall, fixate on a poster and pretend I’m in the waiting room still - sometimes I can trick myself into thinking it’s not happening, and that way I don’t know it’s happened until it’s over. Sometimes they have to take multiple samples and the clicking of replacing the vials makes me think about the needle and I pass out. But most of the time those 2 things do the trick :)

Strangely I've always enjoyed having blood drawn and 98% of the time the pain doesn't bother me. The only times I've been bothered is when a novice phlebotomist has to jab and jab and damages the vein or once in an ambulance the guy poked both arms until they were covered in hematomas without hitting a vein. I like watching the blood fill the vacutainers.

I didn't mind blood being drawn so much when I was thinner. The veins were easy to see and feel for the phlebotomist. Not so much now that I have a fair bit of fat on me. It's harder for them and sometimes they have to try both arms.

I'm all right about going to the dentist. I have a checkup and a scale and clean every year. Since I don't need any actual treatment, it's a breeze.

No.

When I was a kid my biggest fear was a fear of having injections or having blood tests, basically I feared needles.

That all changed when I was diagnosed as type 1 diabetic at age 9, I have literally had thousands of injections in my lifetime and many blood test. Needless to say, I lost that fear of needles pretty quickly after that.

I donate blood 5-6 times per year, which involves a needle bigger than the one used for blood tests. I've done it 73 times total. When they put the needle in, the ask me if I want to look away, but I have to watch them put it in - there is no way that I would want someone doing that to me without me seeing exactly what's going on.

I think I'm probably visibly more anxious about it than most people other than first time donors, and certainly way more than other people who have donated 73 times. Once the needle is in, though, it's fine. After about 1-2 minutes I can't even feel it.

I wonder how many people who receive my blood would be uncomfortable if they knew the donor has ASD...

I have to get blood tests a lot, so they don't really bother me. I don't like going to the dentist though and I avoid it as much as possible.

if they can send a man to the GD moon, they long ago should have come up with something better than needles.

that's my point  if they could do so much with so little so quickly, they surely could have, if they had chosen to devote the appropriate resources to the task, made a substitute method of blood draws and injections.
