Someone it appears that one decision is better than the other

Appearances are often deceiving

For example, twelve years ago I made the stupid mistake of trusting someone. He appeared so honest, kind and all that psychobabble

He ended up homophobic

San Diego 2006

So yes I am indecisive

You should have "I can't decide" as an option in your poll

I tend to over-think decisions, which is hard work. If I want to buy something, I often get stalled by a plethora of choices. It's better when I notice what's happening, question how critical the choice really is, and consider just taking a chance. I have more trouble when all the options are horrible, such as whether to risk cancer or get an invasive test for it. But as a perfectionist, even good options can look horrible because they're not perfect. Many real-life decisions have to be taken without enough relevent information, and I hate that. But I also hate the drudgery, frustration and time-wasting of amassing and weighing up all the data. It's nice when I notice a line of reasoning that simplifies the choice.

ToughDiamond, I am the same.

Ichinin, my inability to make decisions is the reason behind my "apparently inflexible adherence to specific, nonfunctional routines or rituals." Once I make a decision, I will choose the exact same thing so that I do not need to go through the long and painful process of making another decision.

Just to add to the complexity, I've also been known to make decisions impulsively, with bad consequenses. It's as if my brain rebels against the slowness of the "proper" way and tries to correct things. Possibly also something to do with external pressure for an early result, which seems to be a feature of modern life. I failed my first driving test that way - after waiting a while, I pulled out at a busy junction and the examiner had to use the dual controls to stop us from causing an accident. Wouldn't have happened if I'd not been afraid of failing due to "not making adequate progress" as it's called.

Yeah, indecision is a clear issue in my life, due to going too deep into the options and feeling simultaneously overwhelmed.

My wife once took issue with my taking 5 minutes to choose a drink from the fridge at the service station. I was befuddled when the exact brand she had asked for wasn't in stock.

As a young child I used to drive my dad insane when I was choosing fireworks to buy. Back then I was oblivious to the time constraints. I wonder whether the overwhelmed feeling would be there at all if we still felt there was all the time in the world?

There are times that I have a hard time making up my mind. Either that, or I keep changing my mind back and forth.

It depends entirely on what it is I am supposed to decide. Some decisions are so obvious to me that i don't even need to consider them, others can leave me undecided for a very long time and even lead to avoidance.

It's not uncommon that it is the smallest decisions that take the longest time and are hardest for me. Things like what book to read next, should I watch this or that, eat this or that for dinner etc.

It's say it's probably loosely related, largely because we tend to over analyze things a lot. Over-analysis can certainly result in difficulty making decisions.

As Skilpadde suggests, if the analysis is obvious, the decision can be made easily.

Am I, a diagnosed aspie, indecisive?

I dunno. Not sure whether you could describe me as being that way, or not.

Is the inability to make a decision an aspie trait?

I dunno. Could be.
