I listened to the 3 clips you posted, Snail, and I heard normal Laurel, speeded up Laurel, and very slow Laurel. Not a single Yanny.

Try this one. It's 50% speed, so half the speed of the slow one I posted above. It's kind of hard to understand because it's so slow, but it sounds to me more like "Yawny":

I tried some even slow than that, but they sound more like just growling than a word, so if you can't here Yawny or Yanny here, it's probably hopeless.
:D

Thanks! I've listened to it twice now. I definitely don't hear Laurel here, but I don't hear Yanny either.
The first time I thought it sounded a lot like "ee-ov-y", the second time something akin to "yee-ely".

What an interesting phenomenon.

edit: I just asked my mom. On the normal and fast ones she heard Laurel, on the slower she heard "yeah-ah-ee", and on the slowest she hears "Lau-lee".

Here's the clip running at 1.5x speed. I expect you'll hear "Laurel" here.

Here's the clip running at 0.75x speed. I expect you'll hear "Yanny" here.

Both me and my 4 year old heard the same.

Original, yanny.
Fast, laurel.
Slow, we heard yey-eye

Cool - you're the first to confirm that, for someone who originally heard "Yanny", speeding it up helps you hear "Laurel".

I heard Yanny to start with, but when I listened closely, it switched to Laurel.

It might have something to do with me not being English speaker or the fact I have trouble understanding words even in my mother language but I hear "yeah-eye". I can't hear Yanny nor Laurel.

Well, actually I can hear Laurel in the fast clip. But I still can't hear Yanny. Both original and slow are "yeah-eye", just said at different speeds. Super slow is also a very slow "yeah-eye"

How could anyone possibly hear Yanny? There's a distinctive 'L' in the beginning and the end. There's an 'Oh" sound in the middle. There's an "rrr" sound in the middle.

There isn't a show 'a' in the middle. There isn't an 'nnnn' in the middle. There isn't an 'eeee' in the end.

Does this have more to do with how one would pronounce the words than with how one hears the video?

I think the exact opposite lol. I don't know how people hear "Laurel". To me it just sounds like a flat out "Yanny".
