4 kids going to jail in a middle school....something reality needs to be done!

I know that's messed up.

That physical education grade will have zero effect on your life. I can understand how you feel, though. It’s the principle of the thing.

Have you thought about specializing in biology, perhaps taking AP courses in biology and other subjects?

I hope you do take AP courses.

Yeah, I’m glad that it doesn’t have an impact; I’m really just fed up with the teacher.

I am taking honors biology next year (sadly there is no AP besides Social Studies in ninth grade), but I can’t wait to take it in the future. I will likely major in biology, and then go to medical school :D . At least that is what I hope happens.

I am taking AP Social Studies next year, though :D .

Bullying, Harassment, Drugs, etc.

We’ve had around 4 kids go to jail.
That is scary. Really horrifying. When I was in middle school you never even heard of such things. There was bullying sometimes but it was nothing compared to what it is now.

We had all of the above in the early 70s in my junior high. Plus pregnancies. No guns, though. Just knives.

No kid went to jail—but a few went to juvie.

The thing is, we really didn’t have many problems before. If you look at some of my earlier posts, I describe how my school is really decent at stopping bullying and things. However, everything has gone downhill; this year especially. Many of the offenses have to do with abuse of social media. I’ve been at some ends of it with bullying, but thankfully I haven’t been harassed or anything like that. It’s horrible how people can act even at this age.

I went to middle school in a little town in Maine. Maybe we were much more sheltered and innocent.

The first home computers did not come out until I was in high school. Social media had not been invented yet. But even though social media can be a really good thing, I am not happy at how easy it is to bully and abuse people on such a massively broader scale than it used to ever be. Now within a matter of minutes you can literally abuse someone on a global level. That is really horrible.

Probably so.

My junior high was in Queens, NYC—though not really a bad part of Queens.

We still had manual typewriters in typing class.

That’s why I don’t have any social media besides WP. I think it does a lot more harm than good at my age.

My brother, who is 2 years older than me, had typing class on electric typewriters when he was in grade 7.

I had keyboarding class on real computers when I was in grade 7.

So I'm right on the border of when they stopped using typewriters to teach typing (or keyboarding).

We had Olivetti or Royal manual typewriters. I liked the Royals better.

I didn’t need typing class; I could type almost as fast as the teacher.
