Lady Elaine, I remember you mentioning that somewhere. I was the other sore thumb. I was not subtle with my early years for sure.

I got awards for being on honour roll. Does that count?

Of course nobody, including myself, knew I had ASD.

Neither was I. I was a potty training nightmare and I communicated like a cave man until I was 4.

When I was in High School, no one in the Special Ed room had their names up on the Principals List/Honor Roll list, etc etc and it wasn't until like, Grade 11 or Grade 12 there was a meeting between the principal and some randomly selected students (myself included) to talk about it... not much was said really from what I remember

I never did see my Name up on either of those lists after that meeting anyways; and they're just for pretentious little snowflake teachers/principals pets who are overachievers anyways in my opinion

I bet those students came from popular families at your school. The ones I went to school with were self absorbed snobs. I'm sure you saw a lot of the same last names on those lists every year.

I never really cared for the lists tbh; never really looked at them when they went up

And it was mostly the students just excelling at their work  usual crap

Mine was definitely noticeable, and noticed. The problem was that no one knew what they were noticing.

My autism was indeed noticeable from an early age. I stuck out like a sore thumb. Y'all couldn't have stuck out too much if you got plenty of awards in school and did well socially.

I was diagnosed at 7. And I did stand out; towards the end of school I was having frequent outbursts in class. I didn't do well socially, just academically for the most part.

It could be "discrimination"

But that is difficult to show

In school, even in Physics class, the student with the highest grade does not have a "right" to an award

Instructors can choose anyone they want

On PSATnmsqt, awards go by scores only

School awards are just pieces of paper

:D Whooptie do

I NEVER got any skewl awards & I think it may partly be due to my autism because my autism made me struggle more in skewl. Lots of us Aspies tend to have behavior problems compared to other students(we have meltdowns, say the wrong things & bullies gang up on us) so we're less likely to get behavior awards. We tend to get overwhelmed, struggle with focusing, & be put in special ed more so we're less likely to get academic awards. We tend to have bad motor-skills & s#ck with team sports so we're less likely to get athletic awards. We tend to get stressed out & have appointments with docs & psychs more so we're less likely to get attendance awards. It's still very possible for people on the spectrum get receive skewl awards but they are more likely to fly under the radar due to struggling less.

I made the Honor Roll my senior year and received the award for top performance in the field of English, but I wasn't a "popular" student. I did have some friends, however. I was never diagnosed with anything, but I always knew I was different.
