I can’t wear the soft ear plugs that you squeeze before inserting. These expand to block out the noise. They become very painful after just a night or two.

I highly recommend Macks Pillow Soft Silicone Ear Plugs. They are quite pricey, but they can be reused several times, especially if you make sure your ears are clean before using them.

I also rely on white noise, depending on whether my wife snores (that varies for some reason) or not. I think I sleep better with just the white noise, but not if the wife is snoring.

I also find soft foam earplugs particularly painful. I find that the Macks fall out of my ears though. Maybe I am not putting them in correctly.

I don’t know if they have a video, but it takes me almost a minute to put each Mack’s ear plug in. I kind of shape it into a funnel shape and then press it in. Not into the ear canal per se, but into that outer cavity. Your ear has to be squeaky clean.

If I wear earplugs all night long, they hurt my ear canals really bad, even if the earplugs are soft. Also I worry about all the bacteria and germs that are building up inside my ears. I once read somewhere that happens even when you wear earbuds while listening to music.

I am 52 and have slept with earplugs ever since my 25 year old son was a baby. I have always been a light sleeper and if I have to get up it takes me a long while to get back to sleep again so when our first child was born my husband did the night shift so I could sleep. I have slept with earplugs ever since and can’t sleep without them

I've been wearing ear plugs for a while now (2 years or so) it's strange because as a kid I could not sleep without my TV on. However there is one similarity I hate background noise, as a child the TV had to be loud enough to drown out all the background noise, if it was turned off/ taken away I would get really distressed and star crying. As a child I also found it REALLY hard to sleep, it would take me at least 2 hours to start falling asleep, and some nights when I couldn't I'd get frustrated and start crying. :D
