Yeah same here, got worse high school/ college leading to my diagnosis. As people have said, it's because you face a lot of new issues around that time, it's no longer possible to just live in innocent childish ignorance and bliss. Depression specifically can exacerbate the ASD symptoms imo. I think, however, that if I knew my condition beforehand and had prepared for the challenges appropriately it could've been a different story, and it sounds like your son is doing well in that regard.
