OK, I'm really getting confused now. PMs are public messages here?...
 Please re-read what I posted.

Rereading only frustrates me when it didn't make any sense in the first place.
I'll just use the quote and live with the outrageously long threads that will result.

Are you trolling, or do you really not know what is going on here?

I thought that I had already done that. Oh well, here goes...

WrongPlanet is a website.

A website contains a number of forums dedicated to different broadly-defined topics.

Each forum contains many sub-forums, each dedicated to a more specific topic.

Sub-forums contain threads, which are linear discussions of a user-specified subject.

Each thread consists of a series of posts, which are individual public messages.

Posts are submitted using the 'Submit' button.

Thus, you submit a post to a thread, which is in a sub-forum of a forum on a website.

Are you with me so far?

I wish people wouldn't try to do social work unless they are, in fact, social workers.

Help this homeless person by giving him the name and phone number of a social worker for the city, state or county. An actual name and phone number is likely to be more helpful than just the general line, which no doubt will dump him into some awful phone tree. An address might be helpful if like many homeless he has no phone (and pay phones are hard to find nowadays).

RedRobin happens to have excellent "street cred" when it comes to homelessness.

That's one guy you should not attack for lack of knowledge of homelessness.

If he says something about homelessness, I would listen to him.

True enough. I was actually speaking more to the OP, as well as to everybody else who thinks they are going to "help" someone but possibly may make things worse.

You know, here in Seattle, if you read the Seattle Times on a regular basis, just from the comments section alone, you'd think that the general population consider homelessness to be a blight and a scourge as bad as the Black Death.

They view the Homeless Industrial Complex, as they call it, just a scam by city government to keep their social service programs' paychecks rolling in while housing as little people as possible lest they also end up homeless.

It also didn't help that an elderly couple was recently stabbed multiple times by the homeless woman they let into their home.

We all want to help the homeless. I want to help the homeless. I've been homeless a good portion of my life and even wrote a book about how to survive homelessness. In the end though, it's up to the homeless person to help themselves. Government agencies aren't going to come calling, knocking on their car doors or tents, asking if they need someone to fill out disability papers for them. It sucks, but that's just the way it is.
