Growing up, my mother drilled me on "please" and "thank you", but that doesn't get one far in the adult world.
Like Kraftie, I tend to forget anything more complex in the moment, though I might realise later.

At home, my NT daughter complains that I ignore her, she always wants me to ask how her day has been when she comes home, and praise her for doing chores or homework.
When I do things like that to my aspie son, he gets this "startled deer" look and makes a quick escape.
