He just sounds like a Hermetic magician who hasn't found himself yet or discovered that whole resurgent movement. Also to be clear I don't mean that as a bad thing.

I second that! :D

I think that the article we're reading is written by the OP. That is why such offense was taken. This is his summary of another article.

Thanks you guys.
Sorry for that post I wrote. Every year around Christmas I seem to become a bit sentimental
Damn Christmas :(

No need to apologize. There's nothing wrong with being sentimental.

Christmas can be fun but don't let the crazy shopping crowds get under your skin. Celebrate the season in the way you like best.

Grischa, your link contained this statement:

Quote:
In this sense interiority has been allied with notions of the exclusive space or refuge of mankind: Paradise.

What do you think of that? I don't know if I can call the inner life Paradise--it is a refuge of a kind, though I'm reminded of this bit from Hamlet:

Quote:
O God, I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself a king of infinite space—were it not that I have bad dreams.

Still, it is an interesting concept, and there is refuge there. Also mystery: faces within ourselves which we don't recognize.

Mysteries they are...
enough to think of, when sitting under the Christmas tree

I tried to express some ideas in that post on Medium, and yeah it was mine as someone said, but probably unclear and vague and not very appealing to anyone.

You know . .
- It seems obvious that interiority does not mean Paradise
- That was what people in the past came up with; they were object-minded; when looking for a place of refuge, for mankind, according to them, it should be like that
- That's not what I believe in.
- Still I want some refuge for difficult moments; if there is any
- Therefore I was looking for something more minimalistic, more realistic, as what those church goers believe in
- so that when somebody in some article wrote about "reflective distance" I thought this would be a good alternative, . .
- You're always connected to this world, but if you have some "reflective distance" you're able to take some step back, to look at it from a (little) distance (if just little)
- so that you would not be so easily overwhelmed by the course of events that this world takes
- and you will not automatically will be off-balance if you're hit by some life-event

Nietzsche called it "perspectivism", which basically means that you look at things from a certain distance, so that you keep an eye on everything and will not be too easily off balance
Not with disdain, as in soliptism, as some interpreted this idea, but with some distance

But yeah, for some reason this doesn't appeal to anyone.
I feel like pretty crazy even among ASP's on this forum, perhaps I am crazy. Actually in a previous post I was rather angry, but in a way it's not such a problem, that I cannot connect with others, though makes me feel lonely sometimes. :(

Thank you for elaborating. What you wrote makes sense, and I agree: there must be some boundary with the world, without totally being cut off from it. You make a good point about wanting something more realistic than many religions provide. It's easy to get lost in the elaborate metaphors religions offer. It's easy to get lost in the fantasies our heads offer, without utilizing their true value.

Are you a big Nietzsche reader? I'm mostly familiar with The Birth of Tragedy.

I'd rather think of things under the Christmas tree :) Better than any present. And I don't think you're crazy. You're obviously thoughtful and have a unique, intelligent perspective. I apologize for not giving your article more thought, previously.

Thanks for this kind comments

Nietzsche wrote a lot, Also sprach Zarathustra/Thus spoke Zarathustra is very nice, one of his later works. It reads like a piece of fiction. He meant it as a 5th Gospel, "Evangelicum", after the other four in the New Testament
Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Friedrich

He meant the first four gospels as wishfull thinking and his as more realistic/minimalistic

I was just wondering today, driving in the car, that if something would occur, if unhappiness would hit me, I would not be able to withstand it, but I would still like some phrase, some magic formula, something Nietzschean to deal with it

It is interesting how the Persian Zoroastrian prophet Zoroaster has been chosen as a way for Nietzsche to explain his philosophical ideas.

Why would you be unable to deal with unhappiness?

I think I enjoy melancholy more than happiness or sadness. Loss can be very appealing.

<<I think I enjoy melancholy more than happiness or sadness. Loss can be very appealing.>>

I guess you're right.
But loss can come also unexpected, raw, sudden, too unexpected

Once this happened to me, when at the age of 5, riding in the car with my father, to the shopping center, he simply died.
Around 5 in the afternoon at a Saturday afternoon, heart attack, car crashed against a tree
I hate surprises, hate loss

What a traumatic experience for you to endure. I'm so sorry this happened. Loss is the worst emotion, I believe.

I'm very sorry to hear that, my friend. It definitely wasn't the kind of situation I was thinking of, but thank you for being brave enough to share. I'll be thinking of you during the holiday.

Thanks guys.
Didn't mention if for any purpose, but especially around Christmas time, this bothers me
It happened 9th January, after Christmas

Once I wanted to get this thing under control - by whatever means: religion, philosophy, whatever - finding some secret formula, some means - but it just doesn't work like that
any suggestions are welcome
