Any young adult aspies here hate being called kiddo?

I grew up in the midwest and calling someone "kid" or "kiddo" was a term of affection between equals. Not condescending at all. When I moved east, I had to learn to cut that out of my vocabulary because it was perceived as an insult. But very rarely, especially if I am feeling genuinely close to someone, I will say call him/her kid and then I have to backtrack quickly and apologize.

That said, it is humiliating to be referred to as a child when one is an adult. I looked much younger than I was until about age 45, when I suddenly looked much older than I am. It all collapsed around me at once.

So I am with Bea (it can be a term of affection) and with Kortie (It is humiliating to be dismissed as just as "old lady.")

Maybe we (editorially) need to consider treating people of all age groups with respect?

I hate that as well. I never use that term either.

Another one is "pal". I want to say, "I am not your pal." Usually from some unknown person not knowing my name.m

My uncle calls me "Bubba" whenever he visits and I hate it so much!

Idiots call me "boy", "girl", "fa***t" sometimes

They might have gun

So try to ignore

However sometimes being a hero is not possible, practical, or happening

My mental health worker calls me kiddo and I'm nearly 42. Maybe she does it because she's older than me.

Some people say "kiddo" affectionately

Calling adults "boy", "girl", "lil boy", same thing

IF its because you look younger accept it as a compliment. Everyone does not in fact age well. I am a mother and often mistaken for an older sister. I've even been carded when buying ice cream. It's not their fault i am sometimes ridiculously good looking for my age ( that is a joke, but a serious joke) enjoy youthfulness.

Hate being treated like a child

I feel I want to a become angry woman when people call me kid or kiddo even though I'm 35. How can I control my anger and stay calm? I have major anger mangement issues.

Say "please don't call me that, I really don't like it."

If they forget and call you that again, say "I've asked you not to call me that. Why do you still do it?"

I feel when people call me kiddo they don't respect me as a woman whose is over 30.
