Some people who are autistic don't stim at all. Don't let that worry you!
Good luck!

It's not as bad as you think it is. :) You've got this.

Went to bed early last night so as not to wake up late. I have this tendency to go into brain fart mode under pressure/stress. I’m not sure whether that’s a good thing in this situation.

Deep breaths, and well done for getting this far.

I don't stim in the conventional sense and it never came up in my assessment. I think I benefited from knowing

almost nothing about autism at that point.

Was a little nerve wracking. A lot of stuff about very early childhood that I couldn't answer. I said 'maybe' to some stuff ie I wasn't sure. I was getting the impression, rightly or wrongly, she was taking those as a 'yes' . I struggled to answer what I did in my spare time at home and at boarding school. Mind was a virtual blank. Have got another appt on 27th this month and 13th next month. I'm not sure if that's par for the course, or if they're sure you're not on the spectrum they tell you straight out and there's no need for other appointments.

Got a Ritvo to do with some questions to fill in . One part was about other diagnoses including psychiatric ones. That's got me flustered as they want doctor's/clinic name. It seemed very ambivalent to me ie are they asking for current dx or dx back when first dxed in 1975?

Congratulations on finishing this first step. It's normal to go back a second time. My tests were 12+ hours.
I would put both doctors if you are able, but if you don't know the 1975 information (which is likely invalid now anyway), put just your current doctor. Your current doctor probably has the records from 1975 in your chart.

It's OK that you couldn't answer everything. Your next session is likely test-based instead of interview style.

Reward yourself for getting through today! You did it!

Who has any idea who their doctor was 45 years ago? Or that this doctor will still be alive? Not many. Trust me.

I believe the examiner would understand that.

They’ll give you an IQ test and academic achievement tests next time. They might ask you to tell a story based on a picture.

This was the first psychiatrist I remember seeing. https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals ... 6D2C2638C6

A IQ test would be a laugh. I'm one of those people for whom the giving of a full scale IQ is contraindicated ie there's a wide gap between my verbal and non-verbal/spatial ability.

If you have a wide gap between verbal and performance abilities, this might prove an aid towards obtaining the autism diagnosis.

Is second guessing how things went par for the course?

Which one is usually higher? Verbal, I suppose?

Yep. Usually verbal in people with Asperger's.

For a person with classic autism, though, it's quite possible that the "performance" result will be higher.

I had 25th percentile verbal and 5th percentile non-verbal, but I'm not HFA.
