I'm 32 but get mistaken for an 18 year old. I don't mind it. I had a very controlling mother and never really got to experience being a teenager, even an autistic teenager. So I'm not complaining. My boyfriend is 19. But there are people who get their underpants in a knot over any age gap regardless of if both parties are legal adults. So far neither one of us has experienced it personally. But someone here on WP flipped out until other people told them to pipe down. I may be 32 chronologically but mentally I'm around 21 maybe.

If you want to avoid people getting confrontational about the age gap, especially if your partner is still a teenager, I'd recommend not using that last excuse. Pedophiles use it to rationalize and "justify" their perversion, and it's commonly seen as a red flag indicating that someone is a predator. Not saying that you are in the least - I don't know your circumstances - but comments like that will naturally arouse some suspicion.

Just someone who asked for a picture when I was doing requests on Deviant Art. He wanted something veterinarian related because he wants to be a veterinarian too and we just kinda clicked and eventually fell in love.

I don't care if it is technically legal in some places, I would NOT date a 16 year old.

Worst thing is - two rich guys from my hometown were known for their 14 year old girlfriends. It was pretty rampant there. I'm not going into my own stuff but - experienced similar myself.

I kind of get that, Ace, but at the same time - who are autistic people meant to date if they're emotionally immature?

To an extent, don't date. If you've got a very young mental age, don't date. You'll either be taken advantage of yourself or be a paedo. But if you're mentally 18+ and your partner is 18+, I don't see the issue.

Maybe just say 'well 19 is an adult anyway and those who doubt it are the immature ones'. That's true. Mum got married at 19 and had me at 20. She left home at 16. My dad was 25 when they got married.

For me, it seems to be the exact OPPOSITE. People think I'm in college because of the way I act and such.

I’m almost 34 and I still get asked for ID when buying alcohol. I’ve always looked younger and my demeanour is probably more like a student. Not in the out partying and crazy side. Its more like having a childish sense of humour and finding animals so cute that I want to boop them all!

Recently my Chinese acupuncturist asked me how old I was and when I told him , he seemed surprised . I asked him how old he thought I was and he said " mid forties " . I am 65 , he is 49 , made my day .

I got carded yesterday for the first time in a while when I ordered a drink at a restaurant. I took it as a compliment. Oddly enough, not that long ago someone else thought I looked older than 25.

From around the age of five to twelve other people tended to assume that I was older than my actual age, presumably due to my being overweight and relatively tall. Now people tend to assume that I'm perhaps two or three years younger than my actual age; I'm a fairly 'normal' weight and not unusually tall.

I have had students in the classes that I teach think that I belonged in their generation. They were shocked to learn that I am at least twenty years older than their best guesses. I do not physically age at the rate of a normal human. My body seems to look like it ages one year after three or four actual years have passed. It is a curse of my family tree. My father had this until he took up smoking. Once he did that, he started aging at a normal rate.

I remember when I was 20 I told someone my age and they said I looked 18. I don't see how someone can age so much from 18 to 20, in looks or maturity. :?
