In the past I have had symptoms of OCD but I have been strong and trained myself out of any habbits I used to have. Odd things like when walking not stepping on any pavement gaps. It took years to stop doing this. Another is to make sure I step on all drains and manhole covers in the pavement. Another that took ages to break the habbit. Is that OCD or have I got the wrong idea?

Have you seen the movie "As good as it gets" with Jack Nicholson? His character has OCD, and jumps over paving stones and manholes, it's a really great movie. Only a professional can tell you for sure though.

No. Not seen it... Took years to quit habbits like that so maybe not a great idea to watch it?

It might not be for everyone, but I have found it to be the most effective tool I have for calm and balance.

You all know what would be help me out tremendously.

1. Quit trying to make me be positive and have an optimistic view of life.

Instead: Show me the tangible and concrete things that would lead to being an optimistic view of life.

2. Don't tell me I'm being to negative or what not. And, don't give me ancedotals that you did it I should be able to do it to.

Instead: Use logic and reason to show me where I'm off. If you believe I can do it then all you have to do is show me that it is more then likely possible. Show me the stats and numbers that show that a group of people with certain criteria did it.

3. Don't make me make eye contact. It is extremely uncomfortable.
Instead: Accept that I'm autistic and I can't do it.

4. Don't tell me to be myself when we know that it is not true.

Instead: Tell me that there are expected behaviors I'm expected to display depending upon the situation. As an autistic on some of them I should receive an exemption.

5. When it comes to not being employed don't tell me I'm giving excuses.

Instead: Let's say I want to be a programmer are you willing to tell me the necessary steps to do that? Are you willing to explain the IT industry in concrete and specific terms? Same thing with plumbing or going into pest control. Are you willing to explain and tell me what I need to do to go into these things and spell out?

Cube is freelance work in programming an option?

I wouldn't know how to go about doing that including finding clients and setting prices.

For me to be employed I need guidance. And, I needed this guidance 10 to 13 years ago when I graduated college maybe before that. That is the only way I can progress.

Yes, I tried Voc-Rehab. Didn't work!

I'm 40 years old now though and I'm tired. I've reached the point in which enough is enough.

“It takes true courage and real humility to say NO or YES!”
― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah

Markinis, you want my advice. Let me give you two from WC Fields.

Never try to impress a woman, because if you do she'll expect you to keep up the standard for the rest of your life. W. C. Fields

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no point in being a damn fool about it.

And, let me give you mine. If trying to date is causing you all sorts of issues and problems then quit. If trying to be employed is causing you issues then quit. Your mental health and physical health is more important then being optimistic and trying to be something you're not then quit.

Most people will tell you to quit and never give up. I disagree. If you're getting no satisfaction from what you're doing and it's affecting your mental and physical health then quit. This is what WC Fields is saying.

Sometimes ya got to go against the grain and say no.

Cube, hi, just a thought, maybe Alex could help you organise a work project that would be fullfilling for you, he's a developer isn't he?

If I were you, which I am obviously not, I would run an ad on social media that would read something like this:

Hi I'm Cube ,
I have Aspergers and I have some really innovative ideas for programming. I love this work but need logistic help (on a voluntary basis ) in order to connect me with potential clients, and assist me in co-ordination and implementation. It would be really great if you have the connections and could help me get started.
Tx Cube

Don't know about the U.S. but it would work in my country. It is a well known idea that somes aspies are really exceptionally genius. It would fire their curiosity.

I respect your right to choose not to try any more, I read your post and I get it. If you enjoy programming maybe there is a way to dabble in it without needing to deal with the aspects that you find challenging or impossible. For your own enjoyment :D I have great faith in people despite having encountered more than my fair share of assh..es.

Cube, I am not ignoring your right to give up so don't get grisly. I am just exercising my right not to give up on you. Heard "Comfortably numb" pink Floyd just now on the radio and thought of you. :P I am trying to lure you out of your comfort zone to be a little less numb and a little less comfortable.
