I'm friends with a woman who has DS. Her younger sister treats her like a little child. She didn't get to hang out with Dean and I at the March for Life because her sister insisted that she should stay with their family. She was pissed off that she didn't have any freedom and I was disappointed that she couldn't hang out with the two of us like she could in years past.

When I was in special needs school they sometimes had us with more pronounced autism grouped with DS kids. Like on school bus rides.

CockneyRebel,

That's really sad. It was unfair of that girl's sister to exclude her and treat her like a baby. She missed out on a lot of experiences that could really have improved her social functioning.
