Some things that trigger Shutdowns for me are:

Anxiety in general, this goes hand-and-hand with everything else on the list.

Questions I don't know the answer to

Conflict, Confrontation and disagreement

Being over-contacted on social media

Being in a crowded area

Noisy places with bright flashy lights

People overstepping boundaries with me

Being told my opinion is wrong

Being made to feel incompetent

People treating me like I'm unintelligent

Personal and Uncalled for insults/Insensitivity

Bossy, forceful people

When I'm in the middle of a task and people redirect me without warning

Getting cutoff in group conversation, or when I have a thought in my head that I never get out because everyone else won't shut up.

Major anxiety and fear of having done something really wrong. For example, I went to use a public bathroom today and did a half glance at the female symbol. I got inside and there were a bunch of men. My slight delay at processing this didn't happen until I was in a stall, no chance to run out. I s

tayed there (shaking) until no one was there and ran out. Outside I saw the sign actually said gender neutral. I didn't do anything wrong and no one cared, but I've been shot all day.

Add public multi-person-gender-neutral bathrooms to my triggers.

totally get this......!

Shutdowns and meltdowns are the result of a buildup, the trigger that puts the Autistic over the edge can be a minute thing.

My shutdowns often happen in situations where I am in a conversation that I don't want to be in, or where people are demanding an immediate answer to a question I can not immediately answer.

You have really explained something to me. Sometimes I hardly feel a build up and only know I have had it when I look back to the previous scinario I was in. It was why it became puzzling that such a small thing finally set it off. I was looking at the small thing and not at the whole picture.
