I have found out that after taking care of my health problems (meds and diet) my IQ has risen a lot. That said I have always had the capacity but very ON/OFF performance. One day I could repeat word list and another I could not.

I have very good memory for certain kinds of information (like how something works) that fits in with a body of knowledge about a strong interest of mine.

I have pretty good visual/spatial memory.

I have terrible sequential memory and random fact memory, especially if I *hear* the information. I've had to learn most things by reading; luckily I'm a fast reader.

I wish there were more research done on strengths of people who might fit into the "hyperlexia" category! By no means do I think it's a "deficit"...

I have born with visual disability (normal acuity and range but sub-optimal eye control) and I'm useless at anything rotating or remembering fine visual details. I think my spatial ability is low while my mathematical ability is high. Go figure, science was easy for me when it got mathematical (I have degree in it) but I stank at elementary stuff.

Intense stress can indeed interfere with the memory retrieval process. This can severely affect recall of stored information temporarily.

This isn't the same as having a "poor memory". It is a system fault that occurs under very high anxiety/stress caused by personal and/or external events. It happens to both AS and NT people though AS people are probably much more affected, as we tend to have a greater stress burden to begin with from the daily pressure of living in an NT controlled world.

i have a pretty high iq (120-135 range) and have a lot of issues with memory! part of it is that i don't sleep very well but even when i did, i'd forget names or details constantly.
