The irony is, I'm not going to get this delivery now until the whole lockdown is over.

No I think he wanted me to buy an expensive mattress. He managed to upsell me a pillow as well lol. It's a clever tactic they have. They get you to choose a comfy pillow and you take it round the store with you and use it when you test the mattresses. It was so comfy I wanted to buy one. Lying on it now. It's a good pillow.

I know when I worked in retail they mentioned little tricks like that. Having the customer touch and interact with an item and sorta develop a sense of ownership over it makes it harder for them to say no to purchasing it. It's high pressure, but subtle enough the person isn't likely to notice since you're relying on them to pressure themselves into following through. There's other related techniques, like asking how they might make use of it, or how great it will look when they get it home, complimenting their judgment for choosing that one, etc. It's all basically trying to make their dopamine flow, dopamine is what makes most compulsive behaviours become compulsive (including even a lot of substance addiction, the drug triggers the brains reward centre releasing dopamine).

I like when people make jokes with me since I'm constantly using humour to deal with negative feelings, unfortunately even when I know I'm just going back and forth making jokes I sometimes 'miss' one badly.

Just a reminder: under international law, an occupying power has no right of self-defense, and those who are occupied have the right and duty to liberate themselves by any means possible.
