I felt the same when I was getting assessed for ADHD a few years back. I thought they'd just say that ADHD does not exist or that I'm not qualified for a diagnosis or whatever. And I thought that you've got to basically score the same as a person with dementia to qualify for an ADHD diagnosis. But apparently I scored rather high on the ADHD assessment.
I'm NOT doubting your possible ASD, as by reading your posts you do sound like you have an ASD to me, but it does seem that anyone can be diagnosed with Asperger's these days. My brother, the boy I grew up in the same house with and never showed any peculiar autism behaviours suddenly received a diagnosis of Asperger's at 32, even though I believe his problems are related to mental health like depression. He has all the symptoms of a depressive disorder and I even wondered if he may be bipolar, but whatever he has I am quite confident to say, being an Aspie myself, that his cognitive behaviours don't point to autism. I was assessed and diagnosed with AS in childhood, so myself, my brother and my parents all knew about it and so I'm sure that if my brother was on the spectrum we would have picked up on it, being so we were aware of AS.
But anyway, so if they diagnose people with anxiety or depression with ASD then you (a very likely Aspie) definitely have a good chance of being diagnosed with autism.
