Modern processed food is made as addictive as possible. Beware. The best place to stop a binge is at the store.

One time, a family was moving to a new city, and the mother took the toddler in her car, while the father took the 5 yr old. The next morning, dad rushed off to his new job, and the mother told her kids "You'll have to be on your best behaviour today, because I've got to buy lots of stuff for our new house, and I don't know where to go."
"I know, mommy!" the five year old piped up "I saw it when I was riding with daddy yesterday."
Mom was willing to try, and the girl was good about back-tracking where dad might have driven, but they were getting farther away from everything. She was about to give up when the girl cried excitedly "There it is!"
And, there it was, a huge sign reading "Lots for Sale."

I'm confused how this fits in with the topic

It just dawned on me that I tend to eat less when I'm drinking alcohol.

Like others have said here, it depends. At the point that I consider "depressed", no. I barely eat anything, even if I'm feeling hungry to the point of lightheadedness. I'm pretty sure I've even passed out because of this a couple of times. I feel it happening, I know what's happening, and I can't make myself care.
At the point where probably anyone else would consider me "depressed" I sometimes overeat, usually sweets. Most of the time I feel somewhat better after, or at least can sort of enjoy the taste etc. I think of this state as "down" or "just not feeling it" and differentiate it from what I consider full-blown depression. If I don't have invasive thoughts of self-harm, I'm not "depressed."

Definitely. I'm known for eating a lot and I also tend to feel depressed quite often, so I eat even more than usual and it definitely negatively affects me. Occasionally, I'll be depressed but not want to eat but more often, I eat much more than I should when I'm struggling with depressive thoughts.

Yup.
The motivation might be a problem, though.

I disagree.
Rewards are helpful to keep on going, but lifestyle is the key.

Seriously?
They certainly drain "your" mental energies.

Yeah. I wouldn't say I binge, but I definitely stress eat a lot of small snacks. And most of my comfort foods are pastries or carbs in general so I gain weight when I'm down. What's that saying " all sorrows are better with bread."
