Anyone else have trouble underatanding by hearing?

During my assesment I did an intelligence test and failed the (oral) math section terribly.
The psychologist came to the conclution that my working memory isn't so good.
However, in general I take in information spoken much better than from reading. In high school I never did any homework, I learned everything from what the teachers said in class.
Or rather, I remeber everything I read, but I'm very slow at it and can't skim, so it's ineffective.

And of course background noices/others talking completely destroys my ability to take in what is said.
