Are we exploitable? Maybe it's just me.

I can lie and get people to believe me if I want to, but I rather not.

In fact, I did it years ago, to my own mum. I had an obsessive crush on this guy, and I was so obsessed with him that I fantasized a lot. I knew I couldn't have him because he was married, but I never told my mum that. I told her that he wasn't married, then I started to make out that he was coming to the house when she wasn't there. She 100% believed me, and no she wasn't just playing along, she literally did believe me. Even to this day she believes me if I ever bring it up. Not long ago I tried to tell her that he never really came to the house, but she wouldn't believe that. She just thought I was saying that because I am no longer into him.

But I wouldn't want to lie or manipulate if it would hurt somebody, for example I couldn't cheat on my boyfriend because I'd just feel awful. I like to treat others how I like to be treated. Still makes me look like a soft, gullible idiot sometimes though. But I'm not.

Thanks for sharing that story Joe90. I think if people see you as soft and gullible and try to take advantage of you as a result, you recognizing that, weeds out a lot of negative people pretty fast.

I used to be extremely easily exploitable when I was younger. I've found myself in quite a lot of trouble because of it. I always actually blamed it on my abusive upbringing with a narcissistic mother who would just exploit all of her children. This made it extremely difficult for me to say no to anyone when I went out into the world.

I learned to say no as I got older and what's more I learned to say no without the guilt.

I say no all the time now and especially if anyone asks me for money.

I also learned that if you do ever lend people money then just don't expect that they will give it you back. That's what made it so much easier for me to learn to say "no".

Yes we are very easy to exploit. Having social skill deficiencies makes it difficult to see ulterior movies in people. We are not by nature strong and capable people and being so has to be learned. People can pick up on us being weak and easily lead astray and will always try to take advantage.

That being said like Joe stated, don't be afraid to lie if it avoids being stuck in a tricky situation. Over the years I have became pretty good at it luckily.
