Yes...many have "accused" me of having mental illness.

One person said to me "Did you forget to take you're anti-psychotic meds this morning?". I presumed they thought that I was psychotic, but I was not on any medication.
That was when I was at high school.
Another person has said "Are you handicap, or just plain stupid?".

No, but some have acknowledged mental retardation in themselves like "god, I feel so ret*d,"

It's not as if you can change it, people shouldn't be mocked or accused anyway. Those ignoramuses just need to get a life and grow the heck up.

I've been accused of being on drugs, being a psycopath, ret*d, maniac, lunatic, spastic, all manner of insults just because of how I act, talk, and keep to myself.

Well, they'll pay one day.

when I was little many of the neghboorhood kids parents would not let their kids (who were also my age) to play with me because they thought i was weird, would be a bad influence, and was generally a bad kid due to being hyper, occasionally breaking stuff and being aggressive. years down the line, as the only kids my age and I grew older, towards the end of high school they started to pick on me all the time, ostrisize me, ditch me and screw with me. I got fed up 1 day and said a bunch of stuff to the 1 who dished out the most abuse over that period and he punched me, resulting in a fist fight, and would'nt u know it, while in front of all his friends I won, and succeeded in pretty much knocking him out for a few secs (im ashaimed of this now, but back then i just could not take it anymore...)

His parents were notified that the fight occured, neghboors and his friends saw it, the parents came and said the police were coming, i ran home to get my ID to prove who I was and tell my side of the story. The officer arrested me for assault, after his parents said I was crazy and on drugs.

Heh, i dont tell this story much cause it makes me look like a horrible person.

Too make a long story short, he took a trip to the hospital, his face was very swollen, b4 my court date he admited to his attorney (his parents hired 1, and so didnt mine) that he indeed started the physical altercation, resulting in aquittal.

Me too!!...especially "caucasian" girls my own age..I Their parents were usually very strict and hostile and kept them under lock and key and hated it when I would come over. I had alot more friends who were hispanic. Their families were alot more hospitable..They noticed that I was weird too, but it didn't seem to matter as much.
I was hyper, but I was't really aggressive...I did have a really hard time with social cues and social boundaries, so I was persistantly getting under parent's skin...and/or offending people etc...

I have been called schitzophrenic..(i was acting pretty freaky at the time though) I have had other people make that assumption about me (sorta behind my back)...

I have also been called "neurotic"

Also, Flakey, who does not believe I have AS...sez.."You're definitely crazy, but that doesn't mean that you're autistic" So that would mean, I have some sort of nebulous, non-definable, generic crazy-ness

My ex-husband once accused me of being a sociopath, which certainly wasn't true at all, it was just one of many insults he used. Another time, someone else accused me of having multiple personality disorder or even borderline personality disorder, of which I've never had any symptoms. In a way, I'm glad my ex never knew about my AS diagnosis as he'd use that against me, as he said some very cruel things about autistics and others with various disabilities, including blindness.

No not directly being accused of being ret*d, I'm sure they say it behind my back. Though I have had a lot of speechless gaucking stares at me at something incredibly stupid I would say or do, those are always lots of fun...

People accuse me of being high or on drugs, which is ridiculous. My coworker always says, "I know you smoke weed Jimbo, stop holding out, give me some. I can see that you are high right now by the look of your eyes."

I've been accused of having a laundry list of mental disorders, ranging from OCD to schiziophernia.

Just to put a little different "spin" or persepctive on this topic...

NT's do this to each other ALL the time, especially guys. They do it as a bizzare form of bonding and it's actually meant to say..."I except you,you nut".I know that this defies logic but I have observed it repeatedly. When some people ingage in this they are meaning to be little or insult you but they can also mean it as..."you are my friend and I feel safe saying this to you".

So,you can decide to be offended but you can also laugh along with them at some of the nutty things you do/say and recepricate with similiar comments when they are acting..."odd",because NT's can act pretty nutty themselves.

That's kind of what I thought about my coworker, you're probably right. I wasn't sure if he hates me or if he is just messing around.

However strangers have accused me of being on drugs before.

Don't feel ashamed. You have every right to defend yourself. The jerk got his just desserts. At least he was honest enough to step up later and admit he attacked you. Some people just don't learn respect for others without a bloody nose. Refer to "Attitude Adjustment" by Hank Williams Jr.

I can tell the difference between name calling as a joke and someone telling someone they seriously think something is wrong with them...and the times it has happened that way are the ones I bother to mention.

A housemate of mine was yelling at me, telling me that he seriously thought I was borderline ret*d and he had never dealt with someone as dense and difficult to bond with as me...yada yada yada...

I have been accused of having almost every disorder in the DSM IV. That includes the scary schizophrenia. It is because my psychiatrist basically thinks I have many bizarre delusions which I don't believe. I only occasionally hallucinate not enough to have schizophrenia so how can the psychiatrist and my psychologist say such a thing? I also have been called things that are true about me as well such as having an anxiety disorder and depression. Those things are true. My insane brother also calls me the "schizo one." He even tells his friends about me and my beliefs. Just like everyone on Earth that talks about me. I admit my thoughts are weird but everyone knows that already. I am autistic and NOT schizophrenic. Another thing that is true about me is that I really do have multiple personality disorder also known as DID.
