Major sugar addict here. Some days, I basically live on it. I eat little, but what I do eat usually contains sugar. I'm awful with it and have no idea how to quell the urges.

I'm trying REALLY hard to cut down. I'm actually drinking diet soda which I still don't like but am trying to convince myself that I do. Not to give free advertising to a multi-billion dollar corporate entity but the new coke zero is actually a pretty good substitute. They have yet to come out with a good fake chocolate though.

Careful with "diet" sodas. Recent studies showed no benefit over regular sodas. I believe the latest study showed people who drank diet sodas were just as likely to be obese or contract diabetes as pop drinkers.

That being said, they didn't know if the diet pop was really related or if it was a lifestyle thing, but still, it's an important point to consider.

Especially if it has aspterame, run for the hills.

Diet Sodas, like most everything else are fine in moderation. I'm diabetic and would rather enjoy a real Dr. Pepper on occasion than a Diet Soda regularly. My blood sugars are well regulated with meds and I"m not on insulin, so its not a big deal for me to "cheat" every now and again.

Oh, and fake chocolate is not necessary. Real, delicious, DARK chocolate is quite good for you, not high in carbs(lower sugar) and full of antioxidants.

Is sugar the linchpin of anyone elses day, are you addicted to it, what effect does it have, have you ever stopped your refined sugar completely.

Yes, yes, don't know, and no.
Never tried, sugar is what my life revolves around.

Sugar is a protoplasmic toxin which affects every cell in your body in a negative way. I only eat sugar if I really can't help it (social situations where a relative made somthing for me for example), or if I really don't care (too much booze). I have studied sugar and its effects extensively, and trust me, you're MUCH better off without it, in every respect, from aging to mood swings to looks.
Down with sugar!

Your whole body runs on sugar. Glucose is the basic fuel of complex life.

Sigh.. I am guilty to craving some sort of sugar after lunch and supper! Thankfully my family has never been in the habit of keeping the really sweet stuff-such as candy and cookies-around unless it's the holidays or other special occasion. I do notice when I've had too much sugar, though-I get anxious and depressed easily, and my kidneys go into overtime.
I love to bake and wish there were more ways to bake pies, cookies, fruit crisps etc with limited sugar, especially for two of my favorite fruits-rhubarb and cranberries!
