I don't really remember the first house I lived in. It was townhome that our family outgrew, so my parents bought a larger house. I'm not sure how long we lived there, but I was around 8 when we moved out. There was a troublemaking kid next door my parents didn't want us around, so we were seldom allowed to go outside. It never bothered my older siblings much, but it did bother me. Some of the behavior of the family next door made my parents decide enough was enough, so they sold the house and we moved. Strangely enough, I actually looked forward to the move, because we were told we'd be allowed outside, since the family next door wasn't going to be there anymore.
We lived in the next house for 10 years. Being able to go out was nice, but that didn't last. Same thing all over again, another family my parents didn't get along with lived next door, so we were put back on lockdown again for a couple of years. I was the only one this seemed to bother for some reason. This time it bothered me not because of the restrictions, but because of the broken promise of being allowed outside. The lockdown was lifted once my parents were convinced we weren't going to talk to the neighborhood kids, but I was often only allowed out if my sister wanted to go with me, something she took full advantage of.
When I was 18, my family moved to another town a couple of hundred miles away, again with the promise of a better life. My sister was supposed to go off to graduate school, so I thought with her gone, my life would get better without my parents always catering to her and her constantly sticking her nose into my life, but she decided not to go to graduate school so I was stuck dealing with her for 2 more years while in college. Once she left, it did get better for me, but I often had to listen to my mother talk about how much she hated the place we lived and how she wanted to go back yet when we were in the other town, she spent years complaining about what a horrible place that was!
I moved into my first apartment at 22 years old, and enjoyed living on my own, free to do the things I wanted to do, like hang out on my computer all the time, my ham radio, and so forth. I later moved to another apartment, then a condo, then back in with my parents because of an illness I suffered from. After I got better, I got a new job and moved to another city 60 miles away, and had an apartment for 5 years. I really enjoyed living there for the same reasons, freedom to do what I wanted. 6 years ago I moved into a house that I'll own in 24 years I hope!
One interesting point about me and moving, I actually looked forward to it most times, mainly because of the promise of something a whole lot better coming along. Change is frightening, but the chance at something better was always alluring. I eventually learned the grass isn't always greener, only sometimes.
To sum it up, 10 moves in my lifetime, some good, some not so good.

With the exception of my various college dorms, yes. All 28 years.
The degree did nothing to get me out of retail, and I have no idea what would.
Sigh.

Same here...I hate moving. It takes me such a long time it seems to get used to being somewhere different. Moved a few times.
The house I grew up on was on gov. property and we HAD to live there because of the job my dad had...he was transfered to a different job in his home state when I was about 14...we visited here (his home & mom's) about twice a year....I hated it, at 14 I thought this place was the biggest h***hole on the planet.
Best thing about it...when my dad was up for transfer he was put on a list...he picked over 30 states he was willing to transfer to...the next available opening in his service branch that he qualified for was his...we didn't have a clue where we would end up, sold nearly everything because we though for sure it would be down south somewhere (the most openings at the time where always there)...and wouldn't you know it ended up being here. Only I can achieve odds like that.
