I have a problem with peripheral light too. If I'm facing one way and there's light on either side of me, even if it's something nice like a candle, I get vertigo. I can't even be in my snug when the daylight comes in an adjacent window with a blackout curtain, from across the house. If I catch it in the corner of my eye I get dizzy. I've yet to find a solution that really works enough to let me actually see anything beyond avoiding nausea and headaches or shutdowns. Part of my issue is I get visual overwhelm if I see too much of anything illuminated. Life is too many colours and shapes and details and it's all overstimulating. At night we can choose to just illuminate the thing we want to see. That's something else to consider. You might have the same issue. I hate daylight with a passion and spend most of my daylight hours in my cellar which has no windows, just with an old Christmas tree dimly lit (colours), or my laptop light.
