I used to check in about every six months at the barber's shop which I'd been going to since the mid-1970s, but then we had Covid, and it was thenceforth by appointment only. I really can't be bothered with that, so now I just hack away with a pair of scissors when necessary.

I'd probably have long hair no matter my gender because I hate getting my hair cut. I also like long hair. I only cut mine when the ends are starting to get dry from washing it too often.

You make videos of your haircuts?
This was a one-time thing, with a tripod holding the camera on a whim.
Interestingly enough, I soon learned that this video had been widely shared on buzzcut fetish websites / forums, and I ended up with far more views of this video than any other on my YouTube channel, at least for a few years.
It was even monetized for a while, before YouTube greatly tightened the monetization requirements.

Mine was about to my elbows for years. I just lobbed about 5" off a few weeks ago. It's the shortest I've had it in recent memory.
In 2011, before my one and only Burning Man "adventure" with my ex, she had me shorten her hair a lot, so she'd better cope with the nasty conditions of a week on the Playa. We decided to see about selling the hair online, assuming that someone would pay big bucks for long natural red hair, especially with the close-up video I shot of me cutting it off... We never got around to listing the whole "package" online, so it's still awaiting an eventual auction, and the fun of seeing if it goes for much!

I shave mine just about every day using a skull shaver. It's pretty quick and convenient. Plus, it helps a lot figuring out at what point my hair is too long to look good.

These days I just use the nearest barber that looks reasonably competent.
I always used to hate having my hair cut because I wanted it long and they always cut too much off. I was too shy to tell them I wanted anything in particular. Eventually I stopped going and I let it grow for a few years. Then my peers started to urge me to get a trendy haircut, and a job promotion came up, so I went against my instincts and visited a fashionable hairdresser's. Everybody said I looked a lot better, and I got the promotion. Girls seemed to find me more attractive. I was always rather disappointed that such a superficial change could make that much difference to what people thought of me. I always thought long hair looked better than short hair on anybody, but society had other ideas.

My youngest sister had really long hair, down to the base of her back. She had no choice, because our mom thought her long hair was so beautiful. When she was sixteen, my sister had it cut off to her shoulders. Our mother cried, but my sister told me she felt like her head got several pounds lighter.

Myself, I just put on my hair shaver a #2 spacer and shave my head.
This is exactly how my youngest son cuts his hair. He lets it grow out, and it is very thick and wavy. When it gets too long, covering his eyes, he does exactly what you do. Snap on a #2 and everything goes.

Your plan of letting it grow out as you get old was my plan too, except unlike when I was young, the hair started to physically bother me.
I have heard of a lot of fetishes, but a buzzcut fetish is a new one, and one I don't really understand.
Also, you do have a nicely shaped head. I also enjoyed the time compressed recording.

I have one small scar on the side of my head that's only visible when I have a buzz cut.
I like to tell people that I got it "in a knife fight in a bar", when it's actually the result of me seeing a hornet in the garage when I was a kid, turning to run away, and bashing the side of my head into the sharp edge of an open door, requiring a few stiches.
