non-interesting = non-important?
I have the same problem, but I know that I consciously put things off. I put things off until I know the consequences for putting it off are going to be worse than doing the activity. Like taking my car in to change its oil. I know eventually it needs to be done, but I am already late for the scheduled time and until it gnaws me down to where I start feeling like I could be doing serious damage to my car by not having its oil changed it is hard to get myself to take it in. I have had it in my head to stop at a oil change place about 3 or 4 times already, but I waver and end up driving past without stopping.
I do the same thing to a coffee place that I want to try out. I get myself geared up and ready and willing to go while I am out driving and end up just passing on by when my will fades as I get close. My mind brings up all sorts of excuses that I know are wrong just to justify why I shouldn't stop.
I have tried using a calendar, daily planner, even a cheapo pda that I got for free, but I never stick with it long enough for it to become a habit.

I have a PDA with a to-do list that I use. I'm less likely to forget it, because it's also got a music player on it (so no separate iPod for me), eBooks, games, and E-mail and web browser, so there are enough reasons that it's virtually always on my person. Also small enough that it'll slip into the back pocket of my jeans. I'm rarely without it. I feel like I was a lot less organised before I started noting down a checklist of things that I needed to do.

and you should be interested in the classes you take... you or someone pays money for them at anyrate... for shame, not going on the first days!

It is hard to be interested in classes that I am only taking because I absolutely have to. If it was my choice, lol, I would be putting those off until later into the college years, when I'm better in the routine of attending classes and am used to semester changes and such. This is only my second semester, and last semester was a struggle just to adjust. I hadn't even fully adjusted by the end of the semester, and another has already come and begun. Maybe it has a bit to do with the change of pace, and change in routine that makes it exceptionally hard, but partially it is also because these classes are classes I've never done well in, or classes where it tends to be all repetition of things I have learned but have never been able to take in fully.
If I could comprehend everything that is being said, and actually take it in, then yes-I would love the classes. If it was something I didn't already know and actually had an active interest in it, I would do just fine. It's a combination of knowing I don't take in the information properly, and it is based on memorization (which, I do poorly at with short attention span), and just the fact that I am uninterested.
I appreciate that someone has paid for the classes, I appreciate the opportunity to learn, but it is very difficult to force myself to do something when I feel fairly doomed from the start just due to past experiences with it built up from constant Cs in the classes starting in 4th grade, lol. I do hope that I do better, but I suppose, maybe another factor is fear due to the knowledge of my poor ability to take in the information that is being given to me, and knowing that I MUST pass this class in order to proceed and be able to take things that are of more interest to me? I do think about that quite a bit, if I've never ever done well in a subject, chances are it is not going to change, and I know that if I cannot pass that class, I will not achieve what I am wanting in the future do to it. It seriously dwindles down my motivation to proceed at all at times, and probably lessens my interest altogether making it a dredging task than anything else. It is hard to get interested in something solely because you absolutely have to do it, especially when you don't see how it ties to your interests or your end goal to begin with.
Does that make a bit more sense? There is a lot to it now that I think deeper into it, but I think for the most part, the lack of interest still overrides the others, but the others influence the lack of interest greatly.
But is it really fair to say shame on me, when everyone does this at one time or another to different degrees. Can anyone honestly say they have never ever passed up an opportunity to do something in their life that could possibly be interesting or beneficial to them, just because it did not register as important, or because they simply did not feel like doing it? Every second of the day, there is something else we *could* be doing, but we choose not to. Though it is on another level, is it really possible to shame someone else when we ourselves are doing the exact same thing at that moment?

sorry... didnt mean to be biotchy... just giving a teacher's perspective too. it's hard to teach when people dont seem interested in what you have to say...
but college is about growing up in a lot of ways. im starting to take courses on brain biology and ect and it scares the crap out of me that i am not ready for this level of mental abosorption... i suffer from these things too... but most things you'll find are about intertia and just getting into the swing of it. just do it. get up and go.
if you try your best and still fail, at least you'll know you tried and you wont be blowing smoke up your own ass by saying i could have... if i'd done this or that.
that being said... ive definitely skipped classes before lol...

'tis very true, and sorry as well, lol-I've been taking an ethics class and we have been reading Plato's Republic. I've so far found the arguments VERY interesting, and I think the views are starting to stick with me to a degree-well, they have enhanced the way I tend to think already so to say. I tend to think I could be a pretty good philosopher if I really wanted to, but I could just be blowing smoke up my own ass, lol.
I do understand from a teacher's point of view to a degree, and I realize, it ultimately to them makes it look like I don't care one bit, and it doesn't matter what reasons I have for not doing it... what matters is that I have not done it so far. I'm going in Tuesday, and hopefully will pick up from there just fine. When I do push myself, I do surprisingly well usually, at least in catching up. It is maintaining the comprehension that seems to get me, lol.
Have you ever seen the episode of "Married with Children" where Bud is teaching Kelly? She knows all of these new things like how to spell "cat" and such, but all of a sudden no longer knows what the doorbell is, or what her own name is... I feel like that a lot when in these more difficult to comprehend classes. I learn something in one lesson, and almost as soon as I start learning something new, my focus switches, automatically losing what I learned the day before. That is generally why I do so poorly in history, lol.
I feel sorry for teachers having to deal with me, as well as feeling bad for myself, lol. They look at me blankly wondering why I can answer all of the questions from the previous day so well, but everything else is jumbled up, and I sit there feeling hopeless and horrible, because no matter how good of a teacher they are, it just doesn't stick with me.
