Honestly, yes and no. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. And I've never been able to figure out the pattern. It seems to make people's views of you somewhat more extreme, and while on the balance it's probably better to be good looking than not. It just opens up a whole other set of cans of worms to deal with socially.
EDIT: Also, there's more to life than being really, really, really, ridiculously good looking.
